About The Position

Grantek is seeking a Systems Engineer to join its Engineering team and develop real-time automation solutions spanning manufacturing plant floors through enterprise systems. The role uses programming, configuration, and design tools for PLC and PAC programming, operator interface and HMI applications, SCADA, networks, databases, and vision systems. Candidates with food and beverage or life sciences industry experience are preferred. The position is associated with and reports to Grantek’s Richmond, Virginia office; the candidate must be located in Central Virginia or Maryland and be willing to travel 30–50% in VA, MD, PA, NJ, and DE.

Requirements

• Successful or upcoming completion of a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related Engineering Technology degree.
• Academic or working experience with some or all of the listed technologies.
• Meticulous, conscientious, analytical, focused, self-starting approach and ability to learn quickly.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Full-time access to a personal vehicle.
• Located in Central Virginia or Maryland.
• Willingness to travel up to 30–50% within VA, MD, PA, NJ, and DE.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the food and beverage or life sciences industries.
• Experience with DeviceNet, ControlNet, DH+, Remote IO, or Modbus; these are preferred but not necessary.
• Experience with Python, Historian (PI System), and databases.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and implement real-time automation controls and information solutions.
• Contribute concepts during the project design phase.
• Program, debug, and test systems.
• Create project engineering notes, proposals, design traceability documentation, case studies, and other documentation.
• Commission new solutions at client sites and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Create methodologies and solve complex problems.
• Learn new technologies.
• Mentor colleagues by sharing expertise and knowledge.
