About The Position

The Systems Engineer will work with the Army’s premier signal intelligence research and development engineering organization to develop advanced SIGINT capabilities. The role addresses technical challenges across systems engineering, RF and antenna engineering, field operations, technical documentation, procurement support, and user training. The position is based onsite at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, requires a TS/SCI clearance, and includes up to 25% local travel. The engineer leads the lifecycle of SATCOM prototypes, from requirements definition through integration, fielding, testing, sustainment, and transition. The role includes developing system architectures and technical documentation; designing and integrating deployable SATCOM systems; and traveling to operational, test, exercise, customer, vendor, and field locations to install, configure, operate, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and recover prototype systems. The engineer also creates and maintains operator and maintenance documentation and training materials.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Eight years of previous work experience.
  • Experience engineering, integrating, testing, or operating SATCOM, RF communications, wireless communications, tactical communications, or related systems.
  • Knowledge of satellite communications architecture and RF signal chains, including antennas, feeds, LNBs, BUCs, high-power amplifiers, modems, waveguides, RF cabling, connectors, filters, splitters, and related test equipment.
  • Ability to develop and interpret system architecture diagrams, RF block diagrams, network diagrams, wiring and cabling diagrams, interface-control documents, and technical procedures.
  • Experience with field installation, setup, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of communications or technical systems.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, including routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, addressing, throughput, latency, and network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to travel regularly and perform field work, including lifting and moving equipment, working outdoors, working from ladders or elevated platforms as required, and operating in austere or time-constrained environments.

Nice To Haves

  • CI polygraph.
  • Experience with SATCOM systems operating in X-, Ku-, Ka-, C-, L-, or S-band environments.
  • Experience with commercial and/or military SATCOM terminals, hub systems, modems, and satellite network management tools.
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, frequency counters, cable analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, including requirements traceability, configuration management, technical risk management, verification and validation, and lifecycle planning.
  • Experience supporting government, defense, emergency response, expeditionary, or remote-site communications missions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the systems engineering lifecycle for SATCOM prototypes, from requirements definition through integration, fielding, test, sustainment, and transition.
  • Develop system architectures, interface definitions, block diagrams, network diagrams, RF signal-flow diagrams, bills of material, configuration baselines, and technical operating procedures.
  • Design and integrate deployable SATCOM systems incorporating antennas, feeds, LNBs, BUCs, amplifiers, modems, waveguides, RF cabling, networking equipment, compute platforms, and mission-processing equipment.
  • Travel to operational, test, exercise, customer, vendor, and field locations to install, configure, operate, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and recover SATCOM prototype systems.
  • Create and maintain operator manuals, installation guides, troubleshooting guides, maintenance procedures, quick-reference cards, and training materials.
