About The Position

The Systems Engineer Senior role is within the Enterprise Corporate - Integration and Departmental Applications department. This is a full-time position with a schedule of primarily Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with on-call duties as needed. The pay range for this position is $44.15 - $66.25 per hour. The role involves designing, configuring, installing, and supporting complex clinical device or other ancillary device integration solutions, assisting with conversion and operational support planning, and managing system and application software installations and upgrades. The engineer will ensure adherence to change management processes, identify impacts on multiple application areas, and act independently to understand client business requirements and offer effective alternatives. Responsibilities also include developing administration and disaster recovery procedures, monitoring system performance, ensuring quality assurance, and solving complex application software problems. The role requires acting as an escalation point with vendors, prioritizing issues, creating tasks and work estimates, and communicating project status to clients. Additionally, the engineer will analyze business requirements, create technical requirements, review capital expenditure requests, and evaluate new and existing software products. This includes coding, testing, debugging, documenting, and maintaining complex application support software, as well as making modifications to purchased applications. Collaboration with vendors at technical and management levels is essential, including assisting with contract language development and compliance monitoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Computer Science or related field
  • Typically requires 5 years in application development and support.
  • Advanced knowledge of operating systems, databases, vendor-specific development languages or environments, and other system software.
  • Advanced knowledge of the system(s) administered and the inter-relationships between application code and server operating systems and desktop operating systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of hardware and software as used in the clinical and/or business setting.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills and ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate user requirements into system specifications.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to gather, organize and present data.
  • Strong problem and issue resolution skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, configures, installs, and supports complex clinical device or other ancillary device integration solutions.
  • Assists with conversion and operational support planning activities and task of multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates moderately complex system and application software installations and upgrades.
  • Ensures team follows change management processes and makes suggests on change management process improvements.
  • Manages training when applicable.
  • Identifies how requirements and designs will affect multiple application areas (including 3rd party applications) and recommends solutions for those areas to comply with strategic direction.
  • Acts independently fully understanding client business requirements, offers effective alternatives and works as an integration point to ensure multiple design teams are not in conflict.
  • Develops workstation and server administration procedures.
  • Designs backup and recovery procedures to ensure data/media recoverability.
  • Assists in the design of disaster recovery and business continuance configurations and procedures.
  • Ensures capacity monitoring processes are followed and initiates corrective activities.

  • Recommends improvements to current technical architecture and assists in the development of models of possible future configurations.

  • Assists in quality assurance process design and review to ensure proper system operation, optimum performance, and freedom from defects.
  • Defines and participates in on-call rotation.
  • Solves complex applications software problems.
  • Tracks and trends problems and drives resolution.
  • Performs root-cause analysis on complex application software problems.
  • Acts as an escalation point with vendors and staff to coordinate application software changes.
  • Prioritizes problems and issues as needed.

  • Monitors tasks and resources and initiates or directs corrective actions.
  • Communicates with project coordinators and clients in order to keep them informed with regard to project status and potential problem areas.

  • Assists in reviews of capital expenditure requests to ensure configuration and ancillary requirements are correct and complete for fit into Aurora technical environment.
  • Evaluates new and existing software products.
  • Designs complex application support software such as utility programs, macros, subroutines, and control modules from detailed specifications.
  • Codes, tests, debugs, documents, and maintains complex application support software such as utility programs, macros, subroutines, and control modules.
  • Makes complex modifications to purchased applications to fit specialized needs and configurations.
  • Works collaboratively with vendor(s) at technical and management level to resolve problems and manage escalation.
  • Assists in development of contract language and compliance monitoring.
