Northrop GrummanChandler, AZ
$122,800 - $184,200Onsite

About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer: Mission Modeling Simulation – Level 4 to join their team in Chandler, AZ. This position will support mission-level and system-level modeling, simulation, and analysis for advanced missile and interceptor systems. The role involves supporting complex architecture and simulation frameworks, driving mission engineering and operations analysis, and performing trade studies that shape system architectures, requirements, and concepts of operation. The successful candidate will be a key technical contributor collaborating across disciplines and engaging directly with program and customer leadership. This position is primarily on-site in Chandler, AZ, though remote candidates may be considered. The engineer will work with various engineering teams to develop and integrate performance models, algorithms, and simulations; perform operations and behavior analysis, mission effectiveness studies, and assess architecture alternatives; integrate and use graphical user interfaces and visualization tools; link operational mission needs and analysis results to support system and subsystem requirements, engineering analyses, performance metrics, test strategies, documentation, and specifications; and develop and present analysis-backed recommendations influencing architecture trades, CONOPS, and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of professional experience in systems engineering or modeling and simulation – OR – Master’s degree and 6 years; or Ph.D. and 4 years
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance
  • Demonstrated experience supporting mission-level and system-level modeling and simulation for missile/interceptor or integrated air and missile defense programs
  • Hands-on experience with operations analysis and virtual simulation tools such as AFSIM, NGTS, Brawler, STK, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar environments
  • Strong background in probability, statistics, and design of experiments applied to weapon system and mission performance
  • Demonstrated experience supporting technical teams, defining MS&A plans, and reviewing/approving models, assumptions, and analysis results

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret and/or Special Access Program (SAP) access; active TS/SAP is highly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including briefing complex analysis outcomes to program and customer leadership
  • Demonstrated resolve to drive tasks to completion, both independently and in collaborative teams, and possess strong mentoring / training skills
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Missile/interceptor GNC and tracking/estimation (Kalman filtering, particle filtering, optimal estimation theory); RF or EO/IR seeker/sensor modeling; Integrated air defense systems (IADS) or threat modeling; Electronic attack, electronic protection, and countermeasures modeling; Survivability, lethality, and vulnerability analysis at the weapon or mission level
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering, integrating MS&A into system architecture and requirements flow down
  • Experience defining TTPs and CONOPS using mission-level simulations and kill-chain analysis
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C/C++ or similar languages for algorithm development, model integration, scripting, and data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to drive improvements in MS&A tools, visualization frameworks, and data analysis workflows

Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate mission-level and system-level performance models, algorithms, and simulations of missiles, interceptors, sensors, threats, and command-and-control systems
  • Perform operations and behavior analysis, mission effectiveness studies, and assess architecture alternatives for delivering an effect or capability within a broader campaign, including end-to-end engagement and campaign-level assessments
  • Integrate and use graphical user interfaces and visualization tools
  • Link operational mission needs and analysis results to support development of system and subsystem requirements, engineering analyses, performance metrics, test strategies, documentation / reports, and content for specifications and reviews
  • Develop and present analysis-backed recommendations that influence architecture trades, CONOPS, and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs)
