About The Position

The Systems Engineer – MES is responsible for owning, designing, and maintaining workflows within the Manufacturing Execution System (MES). This role defines how production processes are structured and executed within the system, ensuring alignment with manufacturing requirements and customer specifications. This individual will establish workflow rules, routing logic, and system controls at the front end of processes, while also auditing and optimizing existing configurations. The role requires a balance of system design, governance, and continuous improvement to ensure the MES environment supports efficient, accurate, and scalable operations.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of workflow design, process mapping, and system logic within a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying, validating, and analyzing system data
  • Ability to design, implement, and govern system rules and controls
  • Experience with system testing, validation, and use of test environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on process efficiency and continuous improvement
  • Ability to interpret and ensure adherence to customer specifications within system workflows
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
  • 5 years of experience in systems engineering, manufacturing systems, or MES-related roles
  • Experience working within a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) environment
  • Demonstrated experience owning or supporting workflow design, system configuration, or process optimization in a production environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira is a plus
  • Experience supporting system audits, governance, or compliance initiatives is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain MES workflows, including routing logic, rules, and system controls.
  • Define and implement workflow paths at the beginning of production processes to ensure accuracy, traceability, and efficiency.
  • Translate manufacturing and engineering requirements into system logic and executable workflows.
  • Audit MES configurations regularly to ensure compliance with internal standards and customer specifications.
  • Identify inefficiencies, gaps, and bottlenecks within workflows and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain system policies, governance, and best practices for MES use.
  • Support system testing, validation, and deployment of changes through controlled test environments.
  • Document workflow designs, rule sets, and system changes to ensure traceability and consistency.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to support process changes and new product introductions.
  • Troubleshoot MES-related issues impacting production flow and implement sustainable solutions.
