Systems Engineer - Machine Learning

Anduril•Colorado Springs, CO

About The Position

Anduril is seeking a Systems Engineer - Machine Learning to join its Space Ground Systems Engineering team in Huntsville, Alabama, or Colorado Springs, Colorado. The team addresses mathematical, physical, and algorithmic challenges for missile defense and fire-control systems, including real-time sensor fusion, weapon-target assignment under uncertainty, and fire-control scheduling. The role bridges systems engineering, applied physics, mathematics, and machine learning to solve missile defense problems. The engineer will develop machine-learning models and algorithms, design track-fusion pipelines, analyze complex system architectures, and build and verify modeling and simulation code in Python or C++. The work involves transforming sensor and threat inputs into mission-level outputs and delivering technically defensible solutions.

Requirements

  • Currently possess and be able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • At least 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong mastery of applied mathematics, physics, and programming.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or C++.
  • Experience or proficiency with PyTorch or TensorFlow, GPU programming, multi-agent reinforcement learning, mathematical modeling, foundation-model implementation, and algorithm development.
  • Ability to write robust code to solve mathematical problems.
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, and MATLAB.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to missile defense concepts, radar or sensor processing, flight dynamics, TOM, threat intelligence, discrimination algorithms, sensor-tracking algorithms, kill assessment, integrating algorithms into operational systems, or fire-control systems such as GMD, NGI, SM3, Aegis, IBCS, C2BMC, or SBI.
  • Military or defense operations experience.
  • Top Secret / SCI eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and deploy machine-learning models, including generative AI, reinforcement learning, deep neural networks, and physics-based neural models.
  • Formulate and solve physics problems using mathematical techniques, including object detection, tracking, discrimination, weapon-target assignment, sensor allocation, and fire-control scheduling.
  • Develop components that ingest raw or processed sensor data, perform track fusion, and classify threats.
  • Design, conduct, and defend trade studies, sensitivity analyses, and parametric evaluations to identify system boundaries and validate performance.
  • Translate mathematical equations into functional Python or C++ code for non-customer-facing modeling, simulation, and algorithm verification.
  • Connect low-level physics and threat-intelligence inputs with high-level mission outputs.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of Anduril's total compensation package.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, described as a comprehensive, competitive package available at little to no cost to employees.
