About The Position

Motorola Solutions is a world leader in public safety land mobile radio communications systems and an innovator of integrated public safety data and video application workflows. Our Systems Engineers work closely with customers to deliver world-class, leading-edge solutions that enhance personnel safety and address the day-to-day wireless communications challenges faced by State and local government First Responder public safety agencies. The Post-Sale Systems Engineering team's primary responsibility is the implementation of mission-critical digital land mobile radio communication systems for Government and Public Safety customers. As the solution architect and technical consulting lead, the Systems Engineer owns end-to-end system design and technical quality throughout project implementation. The Engineering team concentrates on mission-critical communications technologies including public safety grade mobile voice and data communications networks (RF, Microwave, IP transport), advanced mobile devices, integration with public safety mobile broadband networks (LTE), and Integrated Command and Control systems (911 dispatch consoles, video surveillance, etc.). The work is meaningful, impactful, and leading edge, and you will be part of a dynamic cross-functional client-facing team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or Wireless Communications experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.
  • Experience in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless or broadband/LTE networks.
  • Experience and working knowledge of IP networking, network design methodologies & troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS).
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.
  • Self-motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment.
  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by State and local government agencies / customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Reside in AZ or NM. Preferred candidate will reside in the Phoenix or Albuquerque metropolitan areas.
  • Possession or ability to pursue certifications: CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar.
  • Previous knowledge or experience working with Juniper, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, Xtreme, and/or Ceragon equipment.
  • Experience or knowledge of switching and routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, iBGP, eBGP, M-BGP, MPLS RSVP TE, and LDP).
  • Knowledge of line of sight microwave path design characteristics.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for and oversee all technical aspects of the assigned project from proposal award until system acceptance.
  • Final design and implementation of the radio network accounting for infrastructure, subscribers, power systems design, equipment shelter and tower layouts, backhaul network design including microwave, leased line, and customer provided Ethernet networks.
  • Build strong interpersonal relationships and work directly with end-user customers and peers.
  • Conduct customer presentations.
  • Supply input and participate in system staging.
  • Develop acceptance test plans and conduct system functional acceptance testing.
  • Perform radio coverage testing and interference mitigation.
  • Supply input and participate in radio system licensing (FCC/Industry Canada/NTIA).
  • Prepare system fleetmap, encryption, and radio programming templates.
  • Produce as-built system documentation.
  • Develop plans and participate in live system cutovers and upgrades.
