Systems Engineer Intern - Summer 2027 (For SNC Summer 2026 Interns Only)
About The Position
This summer internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in a dynamic aerospace and defense environment. The intern will work alongside industry experts on real-world projects and develop technical and professional skills through mentoring, cross-functional workshops, and direct involvement in company projects. The role supports SNC’s ISR, Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area, which integrates manned and unmanned aircraft systems and provides end-to-end C4ISR capabilities, including design, integration, testing, certification, training, and logistics support. The intern will contribute to technical projects, support engineering decisions through technical data, and gain practical experience through hands-on assignments. This opportunity is limited to SNC summer 2026 interns and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
Requirements
- Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in college or technical school, with at least six months remaining until graduation after the internship ends.
- Currently enrolled in a university or college program pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Must have been an SNC summer 2026 intern.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and work ethic; detail oriented.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods and proficiency with computers and office equipment.
- Manual dexterity for handling tools and technical equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to work in a laboratory or workshop environment, potentially involving loud noise or hazardous conditions.
- Ability to travel may be required.
Nice To Haves
- Prior internship or work experience in a technical or engineering role.
- Familiarity with the aerospace and defense industry.
- Basic knowledge of engineering software tools such as CAD or MATLAB.
- Microsoft Access skills.
- Pursuing a degree in engineering or a related discipline.
Responsibilities
- Participate in technical projects and complete assigned tasks in support of team objectives.
- Receive guidance and mentorship from experienced industry professionals.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, reports, and records.
- Assist in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting technical data to support engineering decisions.
- Attend planning meetings to understand project requirements, timelines, and team goals.
- Perform hands-on technical assignments to gain practical experience and build technical skills.
- Work with team members, learn from their expertise, and apply that learning to ongoing projects.
- Identify process-improvement opportunities and support implementation of best practices.
- Participate in workshops to learn more about the business and company culture.
