As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will lead systems engineering activities for spacecraft solar array systems at Blue Origin's Solar Center of Excellence. In this role, you will drive the design, development, and manufacturing transition of next-generation photovoltaic power systems for multiple flight programs. This position requires deep technical expertise in solar array design and manufacturing, with responsibility for requirements management, interface control, verification & validation, and cross-functional coordination across the organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of professional experience in aerospace systems engineering, product development, or related technical roles
  • Demonstrated experience with systems engineering processes including requirements management, interface control, verification & validation, technical risk management, and configuration control
  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional team environments coordinating with design, analysis, manufacturing, test, and program management organizations
  • Strong technical communication skills with ability to create technical documentation, present to stakeholders, and influence design decisions through data-driven analysis
  • Aerospace industry experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, or other aerospace systems development programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with spacecraft solar array systems, photovoltaic technologies, deployment mechanisms, or spacecraft power subsystems
  • Familiarity with space environmental effects on solar arrays including radiation degradation, thermal cycling, and on-orbit performance modeling
  • Experience supporting manufacturing process development, design-for-manufacturing initiatives, or transition from development to production environments
  • Working knowledge of spacecraft qualification standards (SMC-S-016, AIAA, NASA) and acceptance testing protocols for flight hardware

Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering activities for the Solar Center of Excellence including requirements development, interface management, and verification & validation for spacecraft solar array systems supporting multiple flight programs
  • Define and manage system-level requirements, functional decompositions, and interface control documents for solar array assemblies including solar panels, deployment mechanisms, harnessing, and spacecraft bus interfaces
  • Develop and execute system-level test plans (ATP/QTP) and qualification strategies, coordinating across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and structural disciplines to ensure integrated system performance meets mission requirements
  • Support prototype development, process maturation, and transition from initial flight deliveries through production
  • Support trade studies, perform technical risk management (FMECA), and continuous improvement activities
