About The Position

This Systems Engineer III - Cyber Security Analyst is part of a highly motivated team of engineers and technicians providing engineering and technical support to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport RI. This select team is responsible for providing systems engineering and cyber security services to NUWC. Our multi-disciplinary team is heavily involved assisting the U.S. Navy in development of new undersea weapons systems. You will support the Activity Command Information Officer and work directly with the Command Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) and serve as a member of the Assess and Authorize (A&A) team.

Requirements

  • A Secret clearance is required for this position.
  • At least 2 plus years of the following criteria must be satisfied for an applicant to be considered for the position:
  • Degree in an engineering discipline, mathematics, science, or related technical area or any of CNSSI 4012, 4o13, 4014, 4016 or Certificate or equivalent military training.
  • DoD 8570.01M IAT/IAM Level II Certification (such as Security +).
  • Operating Systems Certification (Windows or Linux).
  • Experience with eMASS.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, information technology or cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with US Naval systems (submarine systems preferred).
  • 3 or more years of experience in Cybersecurity or IT Systems.
  • Experience using the NIST Risk Management Framework.
  • Familiarity with Xacta, or ability to learn and understand new tools.
  • Systems Engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Risk Management Framework (RMF) package development; Remain current on NAVY RMF policies and procedures. Review DoD, DoN, NAVSEA CS-DoN Standard Operating Procedures, and NAVSEA Business Rules.
  • Oversee, evaluate, and support the documentation, validation, and accreditation processes necessary to ensure new and existing information technology (IT) systems meet information assurance (IA) and security requirements.
  • Familiarization with systems, review of Assessment and Authorization (A&A) System Security Plan for existing systems; identification of issues with the security plan; execution of the validation plan and procedures; review POA&Ms, and Development of Risk Assessments.
  • Ability and comfort working independently conducting security control assessments in accordance with NIST SP 800-53, 800-53A, CNSSI 1253, and the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Ability to clearly and concisely articulate requirements both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills; self-motivation, team player.
  • Ensure appropriate treatment of risk, compliance, and monitoring assurance in support of the development and acquisition of undersea warfare systems.
