Systems Engineer II - AVI MIL FMS (Onsite)
About The Position
Collins Aerospace is seeking Systems Engineer II candidates for its Military Avionics Flight Management department in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The role supports cross-functional teams of approximately 6–10 engineers working in an Agile environment to design and develop flight management software applications. The teams emphasize collaboration and delivering high-quality products to customers. The position works on CAAS/Flight 2 Flight Management Solutions, including Flight Management Systems and tactical communication capabilities integrated into military aircraft. The engineer will work with Systems and Software engineers to design, develop, and test software features for systems used in military helicopters and planes, while developing expertise in Systems Engineering and Flight Management Systems. The role is onsite and may require work beyond a typical 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. day or a 40-hour work week. Domestic and international travel of less than 10% may be required. The position requires U.S. Person status; a security clearance is not required, though the successful candidate should be able to obtain a DoD clearance if needed. Relocation is eligible.
Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field and at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience with C, C++, DOORS, ADA, and/or Python.
- At least 2 years of experience in a Systems role.
- Must be a U.S. Person.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with software lifecycle development, including design, requirements, integration, and testing.
- Pilot or avionics experience, such as private pilot experience, aircraft maintenance, or DO-178 certification.
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance if needed after day one.
Responsibilities
- Work with Systems and Software engineers to design, develop, and test software features for flight management systems integrated into military helicopters and planes.
- Develop knowledge of Systems Engineering and Flight Management Systems.
- Apply leadership, communication, coordination, and proactiveness in a dynamic environment to deliver quality products on time to internal and external customers.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed (less than 10%).
