About The Position

Collins Aerospace is currently seeking an early career Systems Engineer to join our Graphical Flight Plan Server (FPS) team with our Military Avionics Flight Management Applications department located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The engineer that fills this role will work alongside a small team of FPS subject matter experts that support fixed and rotary wing platforms across the entire department. Product Summary: CAAS/Flight 2 Flight Management Solutions - Our signature products for Military Avionics and Helicopters as part of the Collins Integrated Avionics Systems, fielded on thousands of aircraft today, at this moment. Specific capabilities include FMS (Flight Management Systems), Performance Application, System Manager, Comm, Flight Director, and Flight Controls. Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in design, requirements development, and verification of deliverable software, ideally within a production or consumer-facing environment.
  • Experience with Python scripting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in developing avionics displays and/or Flight Management Systems (FMS).
  • DO-178 or similar certification-based development experience
  • Familiarity with ARINC 429 and 661 communication
  • Familiarity with Ethernet protocols (UDP, TCP, etc)
  • Experience with Graphical Flight Planning and/or Flight Display software
  • AGILE development methodology experience.
  • Experience with different levels of software testing, from unit-level through system integration.
  • Strong foundation in communication skills and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs and requirements for our fixed and rotary winged platforms as a member of the Graphical Flight Plan Server engineering team.
  • Create test cases and procedures to verify software implantation.
  • Collaborate with your agile team members on the overall design process for your projects.
  • Communicate plans and status on your assigned stories to your agile team members.
  • Coordinate with program focused engineering teams to develop the functionality that our military customers around the world require for their missions.
  • Champion knowledge sharing, elevating department expertise through both formal training and informal mentoring.
