About The Position

This position is a 6 month contract-to-hire. As a Systems Engineer II, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and securing enterprise Linux platforms with a primary focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, while also supporting distributions such as Ubuntu and related Linux variants. This role supports highly available, secure, and well-controlled infrastructure that underpins critical business services in a regulated financial services environment across on-premises, virtual, and cloud-hosted platforms.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years of progressively responsible Linux systems administration experience in enterprise environments, including strong hands-on administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, server patching, troubleshooting, security hardening, scripting, and support of virtualized infrastructure.
  • A 4-year degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, certifications, and directly related enterprise Linux administration experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or government is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise Linux servers with primary responsibility for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and supporting knowledge of Ubuntu and other Linux distributions.
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and harden Linux operating systems, core services, and supporting packages across development, test, and production environments.
  • Manage system performance, availability, capacity, and operational health through monitoring, tuning, log analysis, and proactive maintenance.
  • Implement and maintain security controls including user and group administration, file permissions, SSH, sudo, PAM, SELinux, firewall configuration, certificate updates, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Execute compliance and hardening activities using SCAP, STIG, CIS benchmarks, and NIST-aligned controls; document findings, remediation plans, exceptions, and operational evidence for audits and reviews.
  • Support Linux workloads hosted on virtualized, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure, including integration with VMware, storage, backup, monitoring, networking, and identity platforms.
  • Develop and maintain automation for provisioning, patching, configuration management, health checks, and routine administration using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for infrastructure incidents impacting operating system, middleware, application, storage, network, or security services.
  • Support backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning and testing for Linux-based systems and services.
  • Participate in platform upgrades, migrations, lifecycle management, and enterprise change activities while following established operational, risk, and change control processes.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, standards, procedures, and change records that support operational consistency and knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, network, database, cloud, and application teams to support secure, resilient, and high-performing production services.
