With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world. Raytheon brings the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. We deliver solutions that help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression, creating a safer, more secure world. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense. Raytheon’s Surface Radars and Sensors (SR&S) Center, Huntsville AL Department, is seeking a Systems Engineer II to support Digital Radar test activities, including radar performance analysis and Flight Test pre and post mission activities. In this role, you will engage in a wide range of engineering activities, including planning and executing radar test events, conducting detailed radar data analysis, and developing and implementing verification strategies for advanced radar capabilities and software builds across HWIL, SIL, and field environments. You will apply radar-domain expertise to evaluate system performance, assess algorithms and software, and identify root causes of anomalies. Key responsibilities include preparing test objectives, defining data-collection requirements, analyzing mission and sensor data to evaluate detection, tracking, discrimination, and engagement performance, and presenting findings to multidisciplinary engineering teams. Additionally, you will work both independently and collaboratively with systems, software, and algorithm engineers, contributing to requirements validation, technical reviews, and readiness activities for flight test events. The role may require occasional travel to Raytheon and government facilities to support integration, test events, and technical meetings.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with waveforms, beamforming, and/or signal processing.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or other programing languages.
  • Experience with system integration, verification, validation and/or testing.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Secret - Current Security Clearance Status: Active and existing security clearance required on day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting radar Flight Test planning, execution, or post test data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in test, integration, or verification and validation of Missile Defense System, Army, and/or Navy sensors.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary systems engineering teams.
  • Experience interfacing with internal or external customers, including providing technical solutions to user requirements, analyzing radar data, and generating and maintaining technical documentation and work instructions.
  • Experience supporting development of verification/validation strategies for advanced radar capabilities and software builds, including building and executing simulated scenarios to predict sensor performance.

Responsibilities

  • Generate, run, and interpret modeling and simulation scenarios to predict radar performance, validate algorithm updates, and compare modeled results to Flight Test truth data and measured radar outputs.
  • Support real‑time and near‑real‑time field analysis during test events by providing reach‑back to development teams, interpreting data products onsite, validating sensor behavior, and advising mission leadership on radar system status and performance.
  • Collaborate with group leads, cross-discipline engineers, program leadership, and government stakeholders to define analysis objectives, prioritize data sets, and communicate findings.
  • Produce technically rigorous analysis reports, performance assessments, test‑event summaries, and presentation materials suitable for internal reviews as well as external customer briefings.
  • Contribute to technical reviews such as peer reviews, gate reviews, verification events, and test readiness reviews, ensuring analytical rigor and alignment with program objectives.
  • Support engineering activities, including systems validation, algorithm performance assessment, data analysis methodology development, and test‑event reconstruction for complex digital radar systems.
  • Actively participate in planning for Ground Test and Flight Test events by defining data‑collection requirements, identifying key performance measures, preparing analysis tools, and coordinating readiness with integration and test teams.
  • Ensure that test and evaluation activities, including data capture, software/hardware configuration tracking, and validation procedures, are conducted in accordance with established engineering processes, quality standards, and government test requirements.
