Systems Engineer I

Boston ScientificMaple Grove, MN
$59,900 - $113,800Hybrid

About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Systems / Systems Test Engineer I to support the development and verification of innovative cryoablation medical device systems. This entry-level engineering role will have a strong emphasis on system-level testing and verification, with opportunities to develop experience across systems engineering, requirements, design characterization, and product development. The engineer will work closely with Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Quality, and other cross-functional engineering teams to understand system behavior, develop and execute meaningful system-level tests, analyze results, investigate unexpected behavior, and provide objective evidence that the system meets its requirements and intended performance. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career engineer who enjoys hands-on testing, solving technical problems, understanding how complex systems work, and using data to make sound engineering decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 0–3 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering or scientific principles to solve technical problems.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory testing, engineering instrumentation, data collection, or experimental work through coursework, internships, co-ops, research, or professional experience.
  • Ability to analyze data, interpret results, and draw technically sound conclusions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality technical documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship, co-op, research, or project experience involving medical devices, electromechanical systems, test engineering, or systems engineering.
  • Experience developing or executing engineering test methods and protocols.
  • Familiarity with requirements-based testing and requirements traceability.
  • Experience with data analysis or test automation using tools such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar environments.
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation, sensors, data-acquisition systems, pressure/flow measurement, temperature measurement, or other electromechanical test equipment.
  • Exposure to statistical methods, measurement-system analysis, or design of experiments.
  • Familiarity with regulated product development, design controls, risk management, or medical device verification and validation.
  • Interest in understanding complex systems across mechanical, electrical, software, and physiological domains.

Responsibilities

  • Support system-level verification and validation activities for cryoablation systems and associated components.
  • Develop, review, and execute system test protocols and procedures based on product and system requirements.
  • Translate requirements and expected system behavior into effective, repeatable, and traceable test methods.
  • Set up and operate test equipment, instrumentation, fixtures, and prototype medical device systems.
  • Collect, process, analyze, and document test data to evaluate system performance.
  • Identify, document, and investigate unexpected system behavior, test failures, and anomalies.
  • Partner with Systems and Design Engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and determine potential root causes.
  • Support characterization testing to improve understanding of system performance, operating limits, interactions, and variability.
  • Contribute to requirements reviews, testability assessments, design reviews, risk-management activities, and verification planning.
  • Maintain accurate and complete engineering documentation in accordance with applicable quality-system and product-development procedures.
  • Support development and improvement of test methods, fixtures, automation, and data-analysis tools.
  • Communicate test results and technical findings clearly through written reports, presentations, and discussions with cross-functional teams.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment, structured problem-solving, and statistical/data-analysis techniques to technical problems.
  • Build an understanding of cryoablation system architecture, interfaces, operating principles, and clinical use to become an effective system-level engineer.
