Job Details Haemonetics is seeking a Systems Engineer I to join the Systems R&D team supporting the TEG® 6s diagnostic platform. This role is intended for an early-career engineer with strong analytical skills, technical curiosity, and the ability to work across disciplines to solve complex engineering problems. Within Systems R&D, “system” means the entire platform — the instrument hardware and software, microfluidic cartridge, reagents, data analysis, and user experience. The Systems Engineer works across these domains to understand user needs, system requirements and performance, investigate issues, and support improvements to the integrated product. This role is hands-on and analytical, combining laboratory experimentation, system characterization and data analysis to define, refine, and/or verify requirements with cross-functional collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and scientific affairs. The ideal candidate enjoys thinking across disciplines, running experiments, analyzing data, making technical judgments, and collaborating to move solutions forward.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related engineering discipline, Master’s preferred.
  • Internship, research, or early professional experience involving complex engineering systems, laboratory testing, or product development.
  • Experience conducting experimental testing and data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Systems thinking with ability to understand interactions between hardware, software, consumables, reagents, and user workflow.
  • Experience with experimental design and laboratory testing.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, JMP, or similar environments.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in medical device or in-vitro diagnostic product development.

Responsibilities

  • Support translation of user needs into system and product requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining requirements traceability and design documentation.
  • Contribute to engineering investigations and system-level problem solving across the TEG 6s platform.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation (V&V) protocols across system components including: Instrument hardware Embedded and application software Microfluidic cartridges Reagents User workflows and usability
  • Conduct system characterization and performance testing.
  • Support evaluation of design changes and product improvements.
  • Assist in proof-of-concept testing and feasibility studies for new design ideas or system improvements.
  • Design and execute experiments to understand system behavior and performance.
  • Analyze experimental results and communicate technical findings.
  • Analyze experimental data using engineering and statistical tools.
  • Prepare technical summaries, engineering reports, and recommendations based on test results.
  • Evaluate applicability of technical recommendations to product performance.
  • Contribute to laboratory operations and maintenance of the instrument fleet used for engineering testing and development.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and investigation of system performance issues.
  • Work closely with teams across R&D, manufacturing, q. Quality, regulatory, marketing, and scientific affairs.
  • Participate in cross-functional problem solving and decision making.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
