Systems Engineer Functional Safety | SR WVB

Texas Instruments•Chandler, AZ

About The Position

Texas Instruments Systems Engineers identify roadmap opportunities and define new products and platforms based on market needs. They use technical knowledge of existing products and industry technologies, standards, and protocols to engage customers and translate their requirements into technical specifications. They partner with marketing, applications engineering, and design teams to ensure products meet customer and market needs while remaining technically optimized, manufacturable, and commercially viable. They convert customer requirements into specifications or safety concepts and work toward development timelines and on-time delivery. This role supports the APP Wide VIN Buck (WVB) product line, which develops power solutions for automotive, industrial, and datacenter applications. The product line is evolving through new packaging, power architectures, and process technologies such as GaN. The Systems Engineer will focus on functional safety across the WVB product line, including defining and enabling safety diagnostics and architectures for current and next-generation wide-VIN buck regulators, supporting customers and internal teams, and addressing functional-safety-related execution and customer issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of relevant functional-safety experience.
  • Ability to evaluate customer systems for functional-safety requirements and determine appropriate semiconductor safety levels and safety features.
  • Ability to define functional-safety diagnostics and enable hardware and/or software safety architecture requirements for power buck regulators.
  • Ability to interpret functional-safety standards from a semiconductor-component perspective, considering system applications.
  • Ability to work independently and take or influence appropriate actions when execution challenges or issues arise.
  • Strong customer-facing, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to deliver projects on time.
  • Thorough attention to detail and above-reproach ethics.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions.
  • Ability to take initiative and drive for results.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant functional-safety certification, such as ISO 26262/IEC 61508 or TÜV SÜD.
  • Experience understanding requirements for power ICs in automotive and industrial markets.
  • Strong understanding of analog/mixed-signal ICs and their applications.
  • Experience promoting or marketing ICs and driving design wins by providing system solutions.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 functional-safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assess customer systems for functional-safety requirements and determine appropriate semiconductor safety levels and safety features for power products.
  • Define functional-safety diagnostics for current and next-generation wide-VIN buck regulators.
  • Enable hardware and/or software safety architecture requirements for buck regulators.
  • Collaborate on functional-safety development needs, including training materials and reference designs.
  • Support functional-safety-related Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CA/PA) activities addressing customer issues, returns, and questions.
  • Interpret functional-safety standards, including IEC 61508 and ISO 26262, from a semiconductor-component perspective and in the context of buck-regulator applications.
  • Ramp up on and apply TI product safety requirements (QSS 024-002).
  • Interface with customers and internal support functions, including Legal, Sales, Marketing, Quality, and the Product Safety Advisory Team.
  • Take or influence appropriate actions, including at management level, when functional-safety execution challenges or other issues arise.
  • Promote and market ICs and help drive design wins by providing system solutions.
  • Establish strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Drive results while maintaining attention to detail, ethical standards, and TI’s public image.
