About The Position

JRAD is seeking candidates for an immediate fill position supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Chemical, Biological, Radiological Detection (CBRD) Support Services. This is an onsite position but can be filled in either Indian Head, MD or Norfolk, VA. The Systems Engineer - Expeditionary Medicine position will provide technical, analytical, and systems engineering support to the Expeditionary Medicine (ExMed) Family of Systems and the Navy’s Forward Deployable Preventive Medicine Units (FDPMUs) and will apply broad technical knowledge of CBRN defense, medical systems, systems engineering, and Navy expeditionary operations to support requirements analysis, system evaluation, developmental testing, and integration activities. The role provides direct support to CBRD Engineering Agents across engineering, analysis, documentation, and test execution. The position requires independent judgment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate operational medical needs into engineering and acquisition artifacts.

Requirements

  • BS in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in systems engineering, requirements development, technical analysis, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting CBRN, medical systems, or expeditionary/operational programs is highly desirable.
  • Program/Project Manager experience highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute individual and team assignments to meet project goals.
  • Apply engineering procedures, analytical methods, and technical expertise to support the Expeditionary Medicine Family of Systems mission.
  • Conduct requirements analysis, technical evaluations, and system assessments for medical and CBRN‑related capabilities.
  • Observe and document test events, demonstrations, and technology evaluations to support integration into Navy programs.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, technical publications, and system specifications across the Navy’s Chemical and Biological Defense portfolio.
  • Support development of technical documentation, standards, training materials, and acquisition artifacts for ExMed and CB Detection programs.
  • Analyze system requirements, investigate solutions, assess alternatives, and support developmental test planning for medical systems.
  • Leverage knowledge of Navy and Marine Corps expeditionary operations to inform system design, employment, and sustainment considerations.
  • Assist CBRD Engineering Agents with technical reviews, data analysis, and engineering recommendations.
  • Maintain awareness of ongoing NSWC IHD CBR research initiatives and emerging technologies.
