About The Position

As part of our facility’s engineering team, the Associate Systems Engineer will assist in deploying and maintaining computing infrastructure, supporting artists and production personnel, and performing day-to-day systems management tasks. The Systems Engineer, Associate will assist in the deployment, configuration, and basic troubleshooting of workstations, servers, storage systems, and network devices under the guidance of senior engineers. They will respond to technical support requests from production teams, escalating complex issues as needed, help document common troubleshooting steps, system configurations, and operational workflows, and monitor system performance and assist in identifying potential issues. They will also participate in on-call rotations for system support, including occasional nights and weekends, follow established procedures and best practices for system maintenance and updates, and assist with basic automation tasks, including scripting and configuration management using tools such as Bash or PowerShell. They will also be responsible for the following: Support software license management and floating license servers with guidance from senior engineers. Learn and apply fundamental networking concepts, including IP addressing, VLANs, and basic firewall configurations. Gain hands-on experience with operating systems (Linux, Windows, macOS) and contribute to system installations and updates. Develop a working knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible, AWX, and PDQ, understanding their basic usage and navigation. Gain familiarity with deployment tools such as FOG, Cobbler, MDT, and WDS, learning how they are used for system deployment and updates. Navigate and utilize network monitoring systems (NMS) such as Zabbix and LibreNMS to observe system health and performance. Work alongside more senior engineers to improve workflows and enhance infrastructure performance.

Requirements

  • Background in computer engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of Linux and Windows environments.
  • Understanding of the operational processes of a VFX episodic and/or commercials facility.
  • Understanding of pipeline workflows and enabling technologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and developing new technical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible; able to adjust and re-prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a post-production environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Bash or PowerShell is a plus.
  • Interest in networking, storage, and automation technologies.
