About The Position

As a Systems Engineer at Lam, you'll design complex frameworks, systems, or products for our wafer fabrication equipment. You will define system specifications, requirements, parameters, and compatibility to integrate hardware, software, and firmware into a cohesive system. Identifying, analyzing, and resolving system design weaknesses combined with your multi-layered technical expertise you help shape the next generation of Lam initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Typically 10+ years of experience developing complex semiconductor capital equipment, industrial automation systems, or similarly complex electromechanical products.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple engineering domains such as: Thermal Systems, Vacuum Systems, RF/Plasma Systems, Motion & Controls, Electrical Power Systems, Process Integration, Reliability Engineering, Software/System Integration.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering, FMEA, and design verification processes.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts and influencing technical direction.
  • Experience presenting technical recommendations to engineering leadership and executive management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with semiconductor etch, deposition, or wafer processing equipment.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, or similar methodologies.
  • Experience with system modeling, simulation, and characterization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop system architectures, operational concepts, and technical roadmaps for new products and technology development.
  • Define, manage, and maintain system-level requirements, functional specifications, and performance metrics.
  • Translate customer, product management, and business needs into actionable engineering requirements.
  • Lead system decomposition and allocation of requirements across hardware, software, process, and controls domains.
  • Drive engineering decisions through data-driven trade studies and technical risk assessments.
  • Lead technical execution across Electrical, Mechanical, Software, RF, Thermal, Process, Controls, Reliability, Manufacturing, and Service organizations.
  • Serve as the technical focal point for cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Facilitate technical reviews including concept reviews, design reviews, architecture reviews, and system readiness reviews.
  • Drive issue resolution and alignment among diverse stakeholders.
  • Define system verification strategies, test methodologies, characterization plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead system integration efforts to ensure subsystem compatibility and overall system performance.
  • Analyze test results, identify performance gaps, and drive corrective actions.
  • Ensure product requirements are verified and validated prior to release.
  • Develop reliability growth plans, FMEA activities, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and failure analysis for complex product and field issues.
  • Support high-impact customer escalations and cross-functional problem-solving activities.
  • Apply structured methodologies such as 8D, FMEA, fault tree analysis, and statistical analysis to resolve technical issues.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions that improve product reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Support products from concept development through qualification, release, manufacturing ramp, sustaining engineering, and end-of-life management.
  • Participate in change control, impact assessments, and design evolution activities.
  • Support Continuous Improvement Programs (CIP), Product Line Projects (PPL), and Engineering Product Line (EPL) initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership during prototype, alpha, beta, and production phases.
  • Mentor junior systems engineers and provide technical guidance across engineering disciplines.
  • Promote systems engineering best practices, standards, and documentation quality.
  • Contribute to development of engineering methodologies, tools, training, and model-based systems engineering approaches.
  • Foster a culture of rigorous engineering discipline, collaboration, and continuous learning.
