About The Position

This is the second level of a four level job series within Community Health System's Information Technology Services (ITS), Technical Services department. Systems Engineers design, build, and maintain various complex systems and structures and ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the organization's information systems that support core IT and departmental services. This role is responsible for the install, configuration, and administration of information systems, servers (physical and/or virtual), network components and operating systems, mass storage, Active Directory services including on prem and cloud, VMWare vSphere, Microsoft Exchange, and other Data Center technologies. Interfaces with internal/external customers and is responsible for architecting and providing technical solutions that are medium to complex in nature under minimal guidance. The Systems Engineer 2 demonstrates a broad level of understanding and fully applies principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments and contributes to the development of new ideas and principles. Provides proficient engineering and troubleshooting of the organization's fundamental server applications, operating systems, storage, and compute infrastructure.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE), or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field required
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree and experience requirement
  • 2 years of systems and infrastructure engineering and/or administration experience in a large enterprise environment required
  • Experience designing and building platforms from scratch to ensure "vendor independence."
  • Experience with being responsible for business problems during the full lifecycle: Research → Analysis → Design → Implementation → Operational Documentation.
  • Experience with Technical writing

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management experience preferred
  • 5 years of experience as a systems engineer/administrator preferred
  • Experience with cloud technologies preferred
  • Work experience in the healthcare industry or healthcare setting preferred
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals, Enterprise Administrator Expert, Messaging Administrator Associate, Exchange Online Support Engineer Specialty, Security Administrator Associate, Teams Administrator Associate, or Teams Support Engineer Specialty
  • Azure Certified: Fundamentals, Administrator Associate, or Solutions Architect
  • CompTia Certified: A+, Server+, Network+, Security+, or Linux+
  • Cisco Certified: Technician Data Center or Network Professional - DataCenter
  • NetApp Certified: Technology Associate or Data Administrator ONTAP
  • VMware Certified: Technical Associate or Professional
  • Other relevant systems/infrastructure certifications

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and administer information systems, servers (physical and/or virtual), network components and operating systems, mass storage, Active Directory services including on prem and cloud, VMWare vSphere, Microsoft Exchange, and other Data Center technologies.
  • Interface with internal/external customers.
  • Architect and provide technical solutions that are medium to complex in nature under minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrate a broad level of understanding and fully apply principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and principles.
  • Provide proficient engineering and troubleshooting of the organization's fundamental server applications, operating systems, storage, and compute infrastructure.
  • Define problems, SMART goals, objectives, and risks for Project Overview Statements.
  • Summarize existing methods vs. requirements and present three solution options for Analysis & Design Documents.
  • Visualize system designs using Architectural Diagrams.
  • Document system lifecycles for maintaining Operational Manuals.
