This role involves analyzing user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications. The Systems Engineer 2 will guide users in formulating requirements, advise on alternative approaches, and conduct feasibility studies. This position provides technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology, and is responsible for incorporating new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations. The role also includes developing technical documentation, system architecture, and system design documentation. The Systems Engineer 2 will guide system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans. A key aspect of this role is interacting with the Government regarding Systems Engineering technical considerations and associated problems, issues, or conflicts, holding ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables within the Systems Engineering area of responsibility. Communication with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives is essential. The position contributes to the development of sections of systems engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents. The role involves managing system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the delivery of production systems compatible with defined system architectures (DoDAF, SOA, etc.). The Systems Engineer 2 will assist with the development of system requirements, functional requirements, and their allocation to individual hardware, software, facility, and personnel components. Coordination of action item resolution from Configuration Control Board meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews requiring cross-discipline coordination is also a responsibility. The role includes participating in an Integrated Product Team to design new capabilities based on the evaluation of development and operational considerations. This includes participating in interface definition, design, and changes to the configuration between affected groups and individuals throughout the life cycle, and allocating real-time process budgets and error budgets to systems and subsystem components. The Systems Engineer 2 will derive stakeholder needs and implied functions essential to system effectiveness, and derive lower-level requirements from higher-level allocated requirements, ensuring they are complete, correct, unique, unambiguous, realizable, and verifiable. The role involves generating alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions, and participating in establishing and gaining approval of the definition of a system or component under development. Defining methods, processes, and evaluation criteria for verifying systems, subsystems, and work products against requirements in a written plan is also part of the role. The Systems Engineer 2 will develop system design solutions that satisfy system requirements and fulfill functional analysis, and develop derived requirements for Information Assurance Services and security mechanism technologies. Reviewing and providing input to program and contract work breakdown structure, work packages, and the integrated master plan are also key responsibilities.
