Internship conversion position for ETG/AEPAS/EEMS. This position will be located at in El Segundo, CA Job Summary The Systems Engineering Division (SED) offers unparalleled expertise in systems engineering to the U.S. government and various public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced development and application of space systems. From systems CONOPs and architecture development to system design and analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED leverages a vast array of engineering and business disciplines across a diverse and dynamic portfolio of space programs and national challenges spanning the total space system lifecycle. As part of the Acquisition and Economics Planning, and Analysis Subdivision (AEPAS), the Engineering Economics and Management Sciences (EEMS) Department bridges technical engineering, economic analysis, and strategic decision-making. With a focus on acquisition engineering, management science, and applied research, EEMS develops data driven solutions to complex challenges across the aerospace and defense acquisition landscape. It empowers organizations to make timely, cost-effective, and mission-aligned decision across the acquisition and engineering lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
  • 0-1 year relevant experience in Cost Engineering, Schedule Engineering, or Economic Analysis within the Aerospace or Defense industries.
  • Prior Internship with The Aerospace Corporation
  • Proficiency in either Cost Engineering or Schedule Engineering
  • Understanding of cost, schedule, and project management methodologies and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with aerospace or systems engineering principles.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 10%.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance, which is issued by the U.S. Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or an appropriate technical discipline.
  • Proficiency in computer programming and modeling (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
  • Familiarity with industry-standard cost engineering tools (e.g. SEER, ACEIT), schedule engineering tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera, Full Monte, forProject, Steelray Project Analyzer); business analytics and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI); risk analysis tools (e.g., Crystal Ball, @RISK); and agile software development tools (e.g., JIRA).
  • Knowledge of government cost and scheduling practices (e.g., DoD, NRO, NASA) and familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) standards.
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze cost and technical data to assess credibility of government and industry cost and schedule estimates.
  • Support research and analysis of schedule and technical data, along with the development of schedule assessments to support the government in the procurement of cost-effective systems.
  • Participate in Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis, evaluation of contractor cost activities, concurrent engineering and trade studies.
  • Utilize industry tools to develop and/or evaluate Integrated Master Schedules (IMS), conduct Schedule Risk Assessments (SRAs), structural integrity analyses, and identification/quantification of program risks
  • Actively engage with senior staff in the development of cost and schedule methods and models. This entails supporting cost research activities, developing historical databases, and providing recommendations through technical analyses.
  • Interact and collaborate with Aerospace personnel and customers in various locations.
  • Document analysis and present technical, cost, and programmatic data/findings to peers and management.
