About The Position

The Senior Java / J2EE Developer supports the development, enhancement, refactoring, and maintenance of an enterprise web-based Medicaid long-term care management application supporting developmental disability services. Working in an Agile Scrum environment utilizing Azure DevOps, this role addresses application defect remediation, performance tuning, UI improvements, and feature enhancements while documenting technical designs and mentoring team members for ongoing operational support.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of professional experience in J2EE enterprise application development.
  • 10 or more years of hands-on Java software engineering experience.
  • 10 or more years of experience working with IBM DB2 UDB database systems.
  • 10 or more years of experience utilizing Eclipse IDE or similar development environments.
  • State government IT development experience within the last 5 years.
  • Hands-on experience developing within Agile Scrum frameworks and tracking issues using Azure DevOps (ADOS).

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 3 or more years of direct experience supporting healthcare, Medicaid, or long-term care management systems.
  • Experience with web architecture, HTML, scripting, and relational databases (such as SQL Server or Oracle) using SQL/PL-SQL.
  • Prior experience executing code refactoring, performance tuning, and UI enhancement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, and debug complex Java/J2EE web applications and database routines.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and remediate software bugs, performance bottlenecks, and application defects.
  • Execute backlog requests in Azure DevOps, including UI improvements, code refactoring, and application enhancements.
  • Perform database changes, update batch processing routines, and modify application interface programs.
  • Participate in daily Scrum standups, sprint planning, and review sessions within two-week sprint cycles.
  • Collaborate with business product owners to analyze functional business requirements, project dependencies, and delivery timelines.
  • Work with technical architects and IT leads to define technical designs, estimate levels of effort, and ensure compliance with coding standards.
  • Demonstrate working functional prototypes to business and technical stakeholders to gather iterative feedback.
  • Create and maintain technical specifications, system design documents, use cases, and database modification schemas.
  • Document completed code modifications and system enhancements to ensure comprehensive system runbooks.
  • Provide structured knowledge transfer and transition application concepts to team members to enable ongoing maintenance.
