About The Position

The Mainframe Storage Administrator is responsible for supporting Walmart’s enterprise mainframe storage infrastructure across complex, high availability parallel sysplex environments. This role manages storage pools, virtual tape, disaster recovery processes, and IBM storage technologies that support mission critical workloads at large scale. The Administrator works closely with mainframe systems, capacity planning, operations, and application teams to ensure resilience, performance, and operational excellence. The position involves managing storage pools, including adding volumes, cleanup, and reclaiming unused volumes, and providing support for space allocation recommendations and usage optimization. It also requires administering and maintaining IBM DS8K storage systems, supporting multiple large-scale parallel sysplex environments with data sharing, and performing system initialization, performance tuning, and subsystem optimization. Key aspects include supporting virtual tape operations, ideally with experience in Luminex virtual tape systems, working with DFHSM for hierarchical storage management, and utilizing tools like FDR and MVSRM for backup, recovery, and storage resource management. Furthermore, the role encompasses supporting IBM GDPS environments, including Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, Metro-Global Mirror, and Hyperswap, participating in Disaster Recovery planning, testing, and execution, maintaining DR readiness across mainframe storage assets, and utilizing JCL and TSO.
