About The Position

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is seeking a motivated Systems Analyst – Intern III to support its Digital Delivery and Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives. This role offers an excellent opportunity for early-career professionals to work on innovative software engineering projects involving AI, automation, scripting, model integration, and cloud technologies. The selected consultant will collaborate with business and technical teams to analyze requirements, automate business processes, develop AI-enabled solutions, and support rapid application development in an Agile environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence.
  • 3+ year of experience in systems analysis, software development, or a related technical field.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and documenting functional specifications.
  • Understanding of business process analysis and workflow documentation.
  • Ability to perform solution analysis and feasibility studies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML concepts and experience using pre-built AI models or APIs.
  • Programming experience with Python.
  • Bash scripting for automation.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Understanding of Docker or containerization technologies.
  • Experience with REST APIs and data integration.
  • Knowledge of Git version control.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business processes and identify opportunities for automation and digital transformation.
  • Gather and document business, functional, and technical requirements.
  • Develop process workflows, system specifications, and solution documentation.
  • Perform feasibility studies and cost-benefit analysis for proposed technology solutions.
  • Assist in building scripts, prototypes, and AI-enabled automation solutions.
  • Support engineering-related software services, including: Model ingestion, Automated quantity extraction, Plan conformance validation, CI/CD automation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Participate in testing, validation, troubleshooting, and deployment of applications.
  • Review system capabilities, limitations, and integration requirements.
  • Support cloud-based and DevOps initiatives using modern development practices.
  • Maintain technical documentation and contribute to continuous process improvement.
