Systems Analyst-Associate Staff

MIT Lincoln Laboratory•Lexington, MA
•$116,400 - $182,200

About The Position

The Advanced Capabilities and Systems Group is an agile, innovative, multi-disciplinary team developing novel system and technology concepts that address the nation’s critical security challenges. The group leverages focused analysis to understand solutions to defense and intelligence problems, and then develops the solutions in a fast cycle of experimentation and prototyping. Frequent engagements with government intelligence and military users connect the group to their unique missions and needs. Projects often involve analysis of mission needs, systems integration to satisfy those needs, and prototyping of tactical systems to demonstrate the capability. Our multi-disciplinary team consists of talented technical staff with expertise in electromagnetics, optics, signal processing, RF design, statistics, optimization, computer vision, machine learning, software engineering, and embedded systems. The Group is seeking applicants for the exciting opportunity to conduct rigorous and insightful systems analysis addressing critical technology gaps for the military and intelligence community. This requires the development of physics and engineering-based models of these systems in various programming languages, often MATLAB but also including C++, Python, and others. Scenarios may be run in varied modeling and simulation capabilities such as Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM); Digital Integrated Air Defense System (DIADS); and internal Lincoln Laboratory-developed modeling capabilities. The successful candidate will have the ability to understand a wide array of technologies related to autonomy, sensors, aircraft, satellites, communication systems, electronic warfare systems, and navigation. Applicants must have a broad knowledge of physics as it is often applied in a military or intelligence context, e.g. electromagnetic propagation and interaction with matter, aerodynamics, lasers, optics, etc. Previous experience or specific expertise in all of these areas is not necessary, but the candidate should have the technical background and aptitude sufficient to learn them. Applicants should be adaptable to new problems that may be outside their formal training, and understand how these technologies integrate into a “big picture” solution. Activities involve performing systems analysis, data analysis, physics-based modeling, software simulation, and engineering design within teams. Applicants should demonstrate strong teamwork skills and enjoy working in a team environment. The position also requires candidates to accurately and confidently communicate their technical work to peers, team leadership, and sponsors.

  • Technical background and aptitude sufficient to learn new technologies.
  • Adaptability to new problems that may be outside formal training.
  • Ability to understand how technologies integrate into a “big picture” solution.
