About The Position

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the overall administration, performance, and security of the organization’s core technology infrastructure. This role includes the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of operating systems, servers, storage platforms, backup solutions, cybersecurity tools, monitoring systems, and enterprise applications. The Systems Administrator partners closely with the Director of IT and CIO on infrastructure strategy, technical standards, and technology decisions, while also leading and coordinating the implementation of IT infrastructure and systems-related projects. As part of the overall IT support structure, this position serves as a senior technical resource with a focus on high-level systems administration, operational stability, security, and escalated support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of hands‑on experience administering server operating systems and VMware virtualization environments.
  • Working knowledge of practice management systems and an expressed willingness and ability to develop proficiency in organization‑specific applications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, electronic health record (EHR) systems, and database systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve proficiency with the organization’s electronic health record system within three (3) months of completing required training.
  • Proven project management skills or experience managing IT initiatives, system upgrades, or implementations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical staff, vendors, and non‑technical users.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, including the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and perform effectively with minimal supervision. Self‑starter, reliable, and dependable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and adapt effectively in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and the ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and lifestyles.
  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make sound routine recommendations.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of healthcare, patient, and organizational information in compliance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage frequent interruptions.
  • Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant systems administration certifications (e.g., Microsoft, VMware, or equivalent) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for installation, configuration and maintenance of server operating system.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency, performance, and overall effectiveness of Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Active Directory, and the Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environment.
  • Schedules and performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems, ancillary software and application software packages.
  • Coordinates with IT Help Desk Manager/ Director of IT to provide escalation support for Help Desk operations.
  • Schedules with IT Help Desk Manager / Director of IT to perform Desktop support functions.
  • Studies existing information processing systems to evaluate effectiveness and develops new systems to improve production or workflow as required.
  • Maintains server data integrity by using appropriate software and hardware solutions along with implementing a schedule for backups for data archiving.
  • Monitors and Maintains vSphere Environment
  • Routinely audits hardware and software to ensure compliance with organization guidelines.
  • Keeps a database library of all supporting documentation for hardware and software licensing.
  • Coordinates with vendors as needed to support implementation and maintenance of the organization’s network systems, including setup, installation, and ongoing administration.
  • Maintains network security system and upgrades as necessary for all users.
  • Manages the daily, weekly and monthly network backup.
  • Makes recommendations for system design and disaster recovery planning and documentation
  • Provides support and training on the various software packages, computer equipment and peripheral devices for the computer systems, as projected upgrade needs and assesses upgrade paths for existing equipment, ensures that all facets of the system are fully operational.
