Reporting to the Associate Director, Systems, the Systems Administrator has responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the College’s servers and systems. The Systems Administrator helps develop, plan, and implement projects and initiatives in the areas of systems operations and security. The Systems Administrator serves as a technical resource and works with the Infrastructure Team and others to deliver stable, reliable, flexible systems and services, and improves everyday tasks and operations that support all College processes. The department is maturing its implementation of Agile practices, GitOps, Infrastructure as code, Automation, Cloud-First approach, Kanban, etc in order to improve the way of working and remove toil. Barnard's server environment is a mixture of Windows and Linux systems (75/25) and this position will be responsible for servers of both types. The Systems Administrator must embrace the principles of workplace justice, diversity, and inclusion and apply them to day-to-day work. This position will be remote, though all Barnard staff members are expected to reside within commuting distance of campus. The employee must be available to be on campus, commuting at their own expense, as necessary to provide physical infrastructure support, attend meetings, training sessions, or similar events or occurrences. While this position is remote, we are a collaborative team and institution working online together through the workday. All remote work arrangements are revocable and may be discontinued by the College at any time and for any reason. These arrangements will be reviewed regularly. In the event of discontinuation, the College will provide advanced notice to the employee when possible.
