About The Position

The Systems Administrator – UNIX / LINUX supports, maintains, and optimizes IBM Power/AIX environments in a mission-critical enterprise setting. This role is responsible for system availability, performance, security, and lifecycle management across development, test, and production environments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience administering UNIX in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems architecture and virtualization.
  • Experience with VIOS, LPAR management, and NIM.
  • Proficiency in UNIX shell scripting (ksh, bash) and cron jobs.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking and storage concepts.
  • Experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with backup solutions (e.g., TSM/Spectrum Protect or equivalent).
  • Experience with High Availability solutions (PowerHA, HACMP).
  • This position requires travel with overnight stays.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
  • Must be regularly available and willing to work on average 40 hours per week during business hours or as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automation/configuration tools (Ansible, Chef, etc.).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, scanning tools, or audit compliance, preferred.
  • Experience with scripting languages beyond shell (Python, Perl), preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures, administers, and supports IBM AIX operating systems on Power hardware.
  • Installs, configures, administers, and supports different LINUX operating systems.
  • Performs system provisioning, upgrades, patching, and firmware management.
  • Manages LPARs, VIOS, and PowerVM virtualization.
  • Monitors system performance, capacity, and availability; troubleshoots complex issues.
  • Implements and maintains system security, hardening, and compliance controls.
  • Automates administrative tasks using shell scripting (ksh/bash).
  • Support backup and recovery processes; participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Collaborates with application, storage, network, and security teams.
  • Provides on-call support and responds to incidents as required.
  • Maintains system documentation and operational procedures.
  • Other assignments and duties as assigned by management.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings and training sessions.
