About The Position

Markon is seeking a Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer to support the Fort Meade customer by designing, building, and maintaining innovative technical solutions. This role is ideal for a customer-focused problem solver who enjoys architecting and prototyping new capabilities while supporting a customer's evolving technical roadmap. The position combines systems administration, engineering, and solution development responsibilities, providing the opportunity to evaluate emerging technologies and implement solutions that enhance mission effectiveness. This is NOT a standard System Administrator position requiring off-hours/weekend/on-call support, but it does require hands-on skills building, configuring, and managing a small number of VMs.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph with this Customer is required
  • 5+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, or related technical professional
  • Experience supporting system administration, engineering, architecture, or design efforts in software development or enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: Linux system administration, AWS architecture, design, and provisioning, Python, Perl, Cross-domain solutions, RESTful web services
  • Experience with Windows and Linux environments strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated customer-service mindset and ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Experience with any of the following technologies is a plus: Java or JavaScript, Apache NiFi, Docker, Kubernetes, Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain new technical solutions and system capabilities
  • Administer and support virtual machine environments, including patching, updates, and system configuration management
  • Enhance existing applications through the integration of new technologies and capabilities
  • Evaluate and prototype emerging technologies to address customer requirements
  • Assist customers in understanding technical options and developing future-state solutions
  • Support system engineering, architecture, and technology modernization initiatives
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system, application, and infrastructure issues
  • Collaborate with software developers, engineers, and stakeholders to implement mission-focused solutions
  • Document system configurations, processes, and technical recommendations
