About The Position

The Department of Corrections (DOC) mission is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior. Roderer Correctional Complex is seeking skilled applicants for the System Administrator Senior on-site at the institution. This position will provide dedicated administration, maintenance, and oversight of the institution's critical technology infrastructure, including security camera systems, Guard1, Lobby Track inventory management, x-ray scanner systems, WBI administration, telephone systems software, personnel software, Xerox print management, employee account provisioning, phone programming, employee cellular device management, server administration supporting the perimeter fence control system, operating system maintenance, software updates, cybersecurity compliance, and coordination with COT on enterprise initiatives and system implementations.

Requirements

  • High School graduate.
  • Four years of experience in IT systems administration, IT systems support, or IT systems analysis
  • Additional education in computer science, IT, or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Additional experience in IT systems administration, IT systems support, or IT systems analysis will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis OR a certification in an IT-related field will substitute for the required education.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the management and optimization of complex agency systems, applications, and platforms, such as system upgrades, migrations, and deployments, from planning and implementation to testing and documentation.
  • Independently diagnose and resolve complex technical issues to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Resolves complex technical issues, leads advanced implementation projects, designs, implements, and maintains system configurations.
  • Performs research and analysis required for project proposals, software, and systems modifications, and new projects.
  • Assesses and mitigates technology-related risks and ensures security and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develops and maintains disaster recovery plans and procedures, including backup strategies, failover configurations, and leads disaster recovery testing, to minimize downtime and data loss in the event of disasters.
  • Develops and deploys automation scripts and tools to streamline routine administrative tasks, improve efficiency, and reduce manual intervention.
  • Provides guidance, training, and mentorship to IT staff members, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance the team's skills and capabilities.
  • Collaborates with external vendors and service providers to procure hardware, software, and services, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely resolution of issues.
