About The Position

Amazon's Worldwide Grocery Stores Tech (WWGST) team is hiring a Systems Administrator/Engineer to join our POS Infrastructure (POSInfra) team. This role involves managing production deployments, building automation, and maintaining monitoring systems critical for reliable checkout operations across hundreds of stores. The team is currently undertaking a significant migration of its entire fleet from Windows to Linux, focusing on building the operational tooling and processes for a modern, modular platform. This position is not traditional desktop support; it requires automating at scale, owning production systems, and directly impacting millions of customer transactions weekly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or relevant work experience
  • 4+ years of Linux experience
  • 4+ years of systems engineering experience
  • 4+ years of site reliability engineering (SRE), systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration experience
  • Experience in any of the following: Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, Shell or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of configuration management systems, such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or related systems
  • Experience designing and developing scripts to automate operational burdens and reviewing scripting changes to ensure they meet the standards for maintainability, scalability and security
  • Experience working in 24/7 production environment
  • Experience in automation or monitoring frameworks, deployment or development

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute production software deployments for store devices (POS, SCO, servers, peripherals).
  • Perform strong root cause analysis on production incidents and device failures, identifying systemic issues and driving permanent fixes.
  • Develop infrastructure automation using Python, Ansible, and shell scripting.
  • Build observability solutions: dashboards, alerting, and health monitoring for fleet-wide device management.
  • Administer lab and test farm environments for pre-production validation.
  • Support platform migration from Windows to Linux across thousands of devices.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for production deployment and device issues.
  • Collaborate with software development teams on operational readiness for new releases.
