About The Position

Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport, and medical communications in Nova Scotia. EMC also operates TeleHealth/811 for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. With a fleet of over 180 ambulances and support vehicles operating from 60+ stations, EMC responds to over 165,000 calls annually. The EHS Operations LifeFlight program provides critical care transport via helicopter, fixed wing, or ground ambulance. EMC paramedics are involved in various programs, including community-based paramedic programs and emergency preparedness. The System Support Logistics Supervisor reports to the Manager, Logistics and Materials Management and is responsible for supervising two teams of System Support Technicians, Logistics (SSTL), Casual, and Student positions in the Central and Eastern Regions. This role also supports Return to Work Program Health and Wellness staff members. The position provides education, monitoring, reporting, and innovation for the Division, Department, and EMCI Programs. The supervisor will have experience with leadership principles, budgets, and vehicle monitoring system data analysis (Acetech/RFID). Key responsibilities include overseeing vehicle monitoring, tracking, deployment, and WASP inventory management to ensure EMCI integrity. The role also encompasses medical supply/equipment and narcotics procurement, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring the success of supply and procurement software systems and logistics projects. The supervisor will assist with eOcccurance monitoring, leadership investigations, data capture and analysis, and targeted reporting. Additionally, the role involves supervising logistics system vehicles, reviewing driver reports, conducting driver evaluations, and providing coaching/mentoring. The supervisor will oversee, schedule service delivery routes, manage general facility maintenance, and support Operations. Participation in EMC Committees such as OHS, Equipment Standards, and Vehicle User Group is also required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a (minimum 2 years) College of Business, Business Administration, Finance/accounting, Information Technology, or Healthcare Administration.
  • A combination of a proven track record as a leader along with knowledge, training and/or experience in Supply/Procurement, Shipping/Receiving, Logistics, Facilities Management (preferably health care related) or healthcare administration will be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Three to five years related leadership experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience in office administration/management including scheduling, and payroll functions; or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience working in a unionized/non-unionized environment, healthcare or major supply/procurement organization with a proven ability to develop relationships and communicate with both Management and Staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise two teams of System Support Technicians, Logistics (SSTL), Casual, and Student positions in Central and Eastern Regions.
  • Support Return to Work Program Health and Wellness staff members.
  • Provide education, monitoring, reporting, and innovation for the Division, Department, and EMCI Programs.
  • Provide input, oversight, and direction into high asset vehicle monitoring, tracking, deployment, and WASP inventory management.
  • Oversee all aspects of medical supply/equipment and narcotics procurement.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on supply and procurement software systems and projects.
  • Assist with eOcccurance monitoring and action accountability.
  • Assist with Leadership Investigations, data capture and analysis, and targeted reporting.
  • Supervise Logistics system vehicles (7+), reviewing driver’s operational checks and reports.
  • Conduct or coordinate driver evaluation during hiring and remedial processes.
  • Provide coaching/mentoring to logistics teams.
  • Oversee, supervise, and schedule service delivery routes.
  • Provide general facility maintenance and support to Operations.
  • Participate and be an active member of EMC Committees (e.g., OHS, Equipment Standards, Vehicle User Group).
  • Support and lead Logistics Department Teams in delivering a high level of service.
  • Supervise and delegate day-to-day tasks and assignments for the Logistics Teams.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance management to Logistics Team members.
  • Collaborate with leaders and stakeholders regarding supply/procurement sourcing and cost strategies.
  • Participate in new project and multi-stakeholder groups, providing feedback on the involvement of, impact to, and workload for the Logistics Team and service delivery.
  • Foster relationships with other Departments and operational areas within EMC, MHS, operating companies, and external third-party vendors/distributors.
  • Perform daily min/max level audits for medical supply/equipment and narcotic levels.
  • Monitor trends for vendor stock shortages and procurement delays.
  • Mitigate and implement advance strategies to ensure consistent stock levels are maintained.
  • Work with the Medavie Procurement Team to assist stakeholders with operational effectiveness and service delivery.
  • Provide leadership by participating in, supporting, and ensuring accountabilities for all initiatives that foster a culture of team safety and a safe work environment best practice.
  • Promote safety culture through the team and organization by promoting safe work procedures, processes, and lead by example attitude.
