About The Position

The System Specialist will perform hands-on solutions at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications at remote locations. This role involves recording, tracking, and documenting the help desk request problem-solving process, prioritizing and troubleshooting concerns, and administering, installing, developing, testing, and recommending upgrades for desktop hardware and software, including virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). The specialist will also administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights within Active Directory (AD), manage security solutions, and prepare documentation and procedure manuals. Additionally, the role includes aiding in the development of disaster recovery plans, testing fixes and upgrades, maintaining an inventory of IT equipment, and verifying daily, weekly, and monthly backup processes. Participation in the department on-call rotation and acting as a subject matter expert (SME) are also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and/or 3+ years of equivalent work experience.
  • Microsoft Office applications
  • Basic computer hardware, including hands-on or remote troubleshooting experience
  • Server and desktop operating systems, including Microsoft Windows
  • Active Directory services, including user creation, group creation and replication between domain controllers

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on solutions at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications at remote locations.
  • Record, track, and document the help desk request problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made and actions taken through to final resolution.
  • Prioritize, troubleshoot and escalate concerns when required to the appropriate resource.
  • Administer, install, develop, test and recommend upgrades for all desktop hardware and/or software, including the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights within Active Directory (AD).
  • Manage security solutions, including anti-virus and encryption.
  • Prepare and ensure the accuracy of documentation and procedure manuals for areas of responsibility.
  • Aid in the development of disaster recovery plans and maintain current knowledge of plan execution. Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with disaster recovery plans.
  • Test fixes and upgrades to hardware and/or software within the desktop environment.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of all computers, thin clients, monitors, keyboards, hard drives, and other components or equipment.
  • Verify daily, weekly and monthly backup processes or automated tasks/jobs to assure quality and successful completion.
  • Participate in the department on-call rotation as needed.
  • Participate as a subject matter expert (SME) when needed.
