About The Position

GDIT is seeking a System Safety Specialist Sr. Principal to join our team in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will cover project lead, systems engineering and technical analysis on multiple platform aircraft systems and projects from aircraft modifications, overhauls, and commercial products installations. Support system performance and analysis activities for the Cargo Utility platform Product Office, to include but not limited to technical development, design, parts integration, test, and evaluation of multiple Army weapon systems. Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between technical project management and planning, technical teams, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets, manages schedules, and prepares status reports. Assesses project technical issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers. Participate as a member of Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) ensuring application of systems and airworthiness principles through aircraft lifecycle phases. Personnel, with minimal direction, performs most tasks necessary to ensure the identification Safety Critical Items and documentation of hazards within systems. Understands the basic elements of system safety engineering to include hazard analyses, hazard management, risk management, mitigation requirements identification, documentation, tracking and implementing, and residual risk assessment. Typical analyses performed include but are not limited to: Hazard Analyses, hazard mitigation, Safety risk assessments. Develops safety documents as required to support aircraft and test, operational, or flight airworthiness. Lead and support various System Safety Working Groups (SSWG). As necessary participate in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assist in identification of causes and corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Familiar with Safety documents AR385-10 and Mil-std-882E
  • Familiar with FAA Administration Dynamic Regulatory System, and be able to interrupt FAA AD notices that apply to airframes managed by MASPO
  • Fundamental understanding of rotor aircraft dynamics and controls, flight mechanics, aerodynamics and propulsion is a plus
  • Experience with Bell Helicopter Platforms, Si-70 or UH-60, Huey IIOH-58, AH-6i, and MD530, Bell 412, 407, 429 and 505 variant aircraft
  • Active Secret clearance
  • HS Diploma (or greater) with 15+ years, or BS with 10+ years or MS with 8+ years
  • Need a Specialized Certification (A&P or IA). Can substitute licensed Pilot or FE experience for certifications

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience and involvement in acquisition processes, like SSWGs and SRD on development of safety information
  • Experience with SSMPs and RDMs
  • Familiar with Microsoft programs - Excel, word, PowerPoint
  • Previous Safety Officer or SRD experience desirable
  • Experience in US ARMY program office is desired, to include; PM ASE, PM Cargo, PM Utility, PM Apache.
