Leidos Defense is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join a matrixed organization of systems engineers, model-based systems engineers, and specialty systems engineers. The role primarily supports a vehicle-based radar development program, with opportunities to work across multiple efforts, including classified and unclassified work. The engineer analyzes hardware and software safety risks to operators and equipment in accordance with MIL-STD-882. Working independently, the engineer coordinates with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and defines tasking based on customer needs and contractual documents. Each effort may require different safety artifacts, including hazard tracking, mitigation, and regular customer reporting through deliverables. The engineer leads the prime contractor system safety working group, engages with the customer, and works closely with systems and human factors engineers to ensure system compliance and that customer needs are met. The position offers work on critical defense programs and the opportunity to develop expertise across concurrent efforts. Experience in areas such as risk management, systems engineering, human factors engineering, and reliability analysis is preferred. The posting notes that success in the organization can lead to leadership positions in System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT).
