About The Position

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer for their facility in Sunnyvale, CA. This role is part of the System Safety Engineering Team and focuses on developing national defense systems. The engineer will utilize Systems Engineering knowledge and System Safety expertise to analyze hardware and software, establish and maintain system safety requirements, and support the Systems Engineering team throughout the system lifecycle. Responsibilities include supporting trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, and translating customer requirements into hardware and software requirements. The role also involves supporting Systems Engineering during System Integration and verification/validation of system requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience using System Safety Standards
  • Experience with the development, documentation, and verification of system requirements.
  • Knowledge and application of System Safety design and operations safety principles to include experience with hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation and/or associated deliverable documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI security clearance, therefore U.S. Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Secret security clearance (or above)
  • Experience using MIL-STD-882E and AFSPCMAN 91-710, or other relevant industry and/or range safety standards
  • Experience defining safety requirements, influencing design to integrate safety requirements, and verifying safety requirements.
  • Software system safety experience
  • Experience participating in System Safety Working Groups
  • Experience with Strategic Missile Defense/Strategic Re-Entry Programs
  • Familiarity with MBSE
  • Familiarity with DOORs
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage and interact in group meeting/working environments with team members, development organizations and customers.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
  • Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings
  • Develop and/or update System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements
  • Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements
  • Coordinate with test range safety teams and writing range safety reports to support testing
  • Development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards, their assessments, and their respective mitigation's
