This role supports senior-level Department of War (DoW) and Service personnel with system safety implementation and oversight for DoW system programs. The engineer will leverage specialized knowledge and expertise in system safety, including applying scientific and engineering principles, criteria, and techniques to identify and assess system safety hazards and guide the implementation of mitigations to reduce warfighter risk. The position involves executing comprehensive system safety programs or individual tasks on a variety of systems, including radar systems, unmanned systems, ground-based missile systems, surface vessel and support systems, or laser systems. The engineer will be familiar with typical work products such as System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), and various analyses including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA) and System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) analysis, Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), Safety of Use Messages (SOUMs), safety releases, and test report evaluations. Responsibilities include analyzing data, developing deliverables, and assisting with the presentation of safety analyses and results. The role also involves reviewing system safety artifacts to verify compliance with requirements, policy, and guidance documents, following established plans and quality standards, and improving processes. Additionally, the engineer will lead and manage junior staff in executing safety tasks and provide mentorship.
