System Safety and Reliability Engineer

Rolls-RoyceIndianapolis, IN

About The Position

To ensure at all phases of the product lifecycle, that the Safety & Reliability attributes of the product are understood and that the risks arising from it are managed to an acceptable level. Contribute to the capability acquisition / improvement as well as to the technical and process governance of the S&R capability. As a System Safety & Reliability Engineer, you’ll be part of a team that ensures the safety and reliability attributes of our products are understood and risks are managed to an acceptable level. This role involves the integration of diverse areas of knowledge to create and support complex systems that enable reliable system operation under highly challenging conditions. Tasks include mathematical modeling of complex systems, probabilistic safety assessments, and hazard assessments, extracting actionable insights to improve our products. We apply multi-domain engineering knowledge for components and systems, detailing failure mechanisms and their system effects. Understand the product's degradation and failure mechanisms, their associated consequences and the hazards they contribute to. Where applicable, develop and deploy models to characterize them using deterministic or probabilistic / data mining techniques. Lead and conduct the assessment of new and derivative design solutions/architectures, product operation and maintenance practices to evaluate their impact on product Safety & Reliability. Develop and deploy models at component, system and asset levels to characterize the product's Safety & Reliability attributes. Support the associated part / function classification activities. Analyze and quantify risks associated with human / system interaction addressing both Human Error and the hazards arising from errors committed by personnel and also Hazards to personnel arising from system / equipment malfunction, damage or features inherent in the design. Support product development and entry into service phases through the coordination and/or provision of Safety & Reliability documentation (e.g. FHA, FMECA, SSA, TLD, safety class analysis, fault schedules, OCL, etc.). Support product in-service phase through the coordination and/or execution of the S&R work required to address specific in-service issues or concerns (e.g. SAR, Red Top) and support Periodic Safety Review activities. Lead FRACAS or relevant event management system at in-service phases. Derive lessons learnt, identify and develop improvements in tools, methods and processes and support their globalization
