As a Software Engineer Sr. within PNC's Technology organization, you will be part of the HR Core Apps and Payroll team and will report into a Software Engineering Manager Sr. You can be based in Pittsburgh PA, Strongsville OH, Cleveland OH, Dallas TX or Phoenix AZ. PNC will not provide sponsorship for employment visas or participate in STEM OPT for this position. We’re seeking a Systems Reliability & Support Specialist Sr. to own and evolve Workday integrations and related HR/Payroll applications. You’ll lead ETL workflows, mainframe JCL jobs, file transmissions, and monitoring across a complex, business critical ecosystem. This role combines hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, and cross-team collaboration with vendors and internal technology partners. The HR Core Apps & Payroll team supports Workday and other vendor applications that underpin our HR and payroll operations. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the quality of all changes and upgrades to our Core HR system, as well as supporting systems and vendor applications. This position involves monitoring, maintaining, and supporting systems and software to ensure stability and compliance to technology standards. It includes performing maintenance, installing patches and upgrades with a focus on continuous availability, and handling incident detection, resolution, and escalation. The role also involves conducting root cause analysis, monitoring systems availability, performance, and capacity, and leading application governance activities such as attestations, continuity testing, impact analysis, and responding to audit/regulatory inquiries.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in supporting vendor hosted applications
  • Experience with Jira
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Experience with Mainframe (CA7 or other scheduling tools)
  • Experience with Workday or other HRMS systems
  • Experience with Oracle Identity Manager
  • Experience with Monitoring tools
  • Experience with ServiceNow or other ticketing software
  • Ability to communicate across technical and non-technical channels – both spoken and in writing
  • Adaptability to keep pace with changing technology standards
  • Appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities for a role
  • University / college degree, with 3+ years of relevant / direct industry experience (In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience, including military service, may be considered)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting Workday integrations (EIB, Studio, Core Connectors) and business end-to-end processes
  • General knowledge of ETL issues and maintenance
  • Practical experience troubleshooting JCL jobs and mainframe batch processing
  • Experience working with HR business partners as customers

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, mentor peers, and contribute to engineering standards.
  • Demonstrate ownership of governance and controls for assigned applications; this includes timely certificate renewals, remediation of vulnerabilities, and responding to internal and external audits.
  • Use tools like Dynatrace and BigPanda to detect anomalies, reduce MTTR, and drive incident prevention through observability and automation.
  • Partner with PNC Enterprise security and access management teams to ensure data security and privacy controls for all assigned applications.
  • Work in Agile (Scrum/Kanban), manage work in Jira, and coordinate incident/change management in ServiceNow.
  • Work closely with technology teams, vendors, and business partners to prioritize, plan, and deliver quality fixes to production issues.
  • Participate in on call rotation.
  • Assist with testing efforts on larger scale projects (e.g. Year End processing, Mergers and Acquisitions, etc.).
  • Monitor, maintain and support systems and software to ensure stability and compliance to technology standards.
  • Perform maintenance, including installation of patches and upgrades with an understanding of the production environment and goal of continuous availability.
  • Incident detection, resolution and/or escalation.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and correction resulting in prevention.
  • Monitor systems availability, performance, and capacity against baseline metrics and reports trends.
  • Report out information to support stabilization.
  • Develop in depth knowledge of supported systems and applications and transfer knowledge to more junior staff.
  • Lead application governance, such as required attestations, continuity testing, impact analysis, responding to audit/regulatory inquiries and complying with technology standards.
