Intern - System Protection Technician (Surry, VA)
About The Position
Dominion Energy is seeking a System Protection Intern for Summer 2027 at Surry Nuclear Power Station in Surry, VA. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in the field of power generation, electric transmission and distribution. Interns will work closely with System Protection Technicians to develop a foundational understanding of substation electrical equipment, high-voltage diagnostic testing, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting. This role is ideal for students interested in fieldwork and technical operations, with the potential for full-time employment upon successful completion of the internship and alignment with Dominion Energy’s culture and career pathways.
Requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills with mechanical and/or electrical equipment and control circuits.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Solid math, technical, and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity, color vision, hearing, climbing, stooping, standing, and bending.
- Weight restriction of 290 pounds applies.
Responsibilities
- Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
- Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
- Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
- Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
- Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.
Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $22.00 - $28.00
