System Product Design Engineer

Apple•Cupertino, CA
•$150,400 - $225,300•Onsite

About The Position

Imagine what you can do here. Apple is a place where extraordinary people gather to do their lives best work. Together we create products and experiences people once couldn't have imagined, and now, can't imagine living without. It's the diversity of those people and their ideas that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. Develop and optimize automated measurement systems from ideation to deployment. Detail mechanical design of manual and automated measurement and calibration systems (including component and materials selection, 3D/2D CAD, mechanism design, FEA). Collaborate with vendors to develop measurement systems and improve manufacturing and metrology capabilities and processes. Manage vendor prototyping schedule and manufacturing plan. Support new product failure analysis and continuous improvements in product manufacturability and performance contribute to the production of the highest quality products available. Support new vendor development to expand Apple's vendor base with regards to capability, capacity, and geographical influence. Collaborate with DRI and design teams to determine measurement system requirements. Collaborating with PD teams to both inform unit design to enable optimized calibration/testing at factory and to inform measurement system design for proper unit constraint. Engineer activity to support complex system integration design and validation. Analyze materials utilized in fixture designs, for strength, thermal stability, wear, friction, fatigue, weight, deflection, stiffness, etc. Analyze system level worst case and statistical tolerance loop to encompass component fabrication, thermal drift, fit of elements, sensor capabilities, wear, and test parametric interaction. Drive failure analysis activity of processes and complex system assemblies at contract manufacturers' and vendors' sites. Identify corrective action, implementing, and overseeing at manufacturers' and vendors' sites to implement fixes identified through FA activity. Define standard operation procedures to be followed by vendors and contract manufacturers, define fixture/station assembly, calibration, test, validation, and maintenance activity. Support equipment design, deployment, and validation.
