About The Position

System Protection and Controls Engineer to join our electrical engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, specification, testing, commissioning, and ongoing technical support of protection and control systems for electrical power systems. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with commercial power generation facilities, substations, transmission and distribution systems, and a strong understanding of NERC reliability standards and compliance requirements. This role will support the design and operation of electrical protection and control systems while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, utility requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience
  • Experience with transmission, distribution, or generation protection systems.
  • Experience with substation automation and SCADA systems.
  • Experience with protection and power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, PSS®E, ASPEN OneLiner, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of utility protection standards and practices.
  • Experience working on medium-, high-, and extra-high-voltage electrical systems.
  • PE license required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% across the continental U.S. as needed
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with renewables, battery storage, and DER integration
  • Knowledge of utility-specific relay philosophies and design review procedures
  • Hands-on involvement in FAT, commissioning, or relay testing

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop protection and control systems for commercial power plants, generating stations, substations, transmission and distribution systems, and industrial electrical facilities.
  • Develop and maintain protection philosophies, relay settings, coordination studies, and protection schemes for generation and power delivery systems.
  • Perform power system studies
  • Develop and review protection and control engineering drawings
  • Select and specify protective relays, instrument transformers, control equipment, communication devices, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Develop and review relay logic, control logic, interlocking, breaker failure, synchronizing, transfer trip, and other protection schemes.
  • Support protection and control systems for generators, transformers, switchgear, transmission lines, motors, buses, and auxiliary electrical systems within commercial power plants.
  • Develop and review generator protection schemes, including differential, overcurrent, voltage, frequency
