About The Position

Puget Sound Energy's Electric Operations team is seeking a System Operator Trainee to help keep our electrical system running safely and reliably. In this role, you'll train to operate PSE's electrical system on rotating shifts, issuing clearances and switching orders to field personnel and performing SCADA switching in compliance with Company standards. Working under the guidance of an experienced System Operator and the System Operator Training Committee (SOTC), you'll build the skills and knowledge needed to progress toward independent operation and successfully pass your Level I exam. All PSE employees are expected to uphold the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities and promote and support a culture of total safety. Additionally, employees need to demonstrate commitment to conduct business honestly, ethically and consistent with our core values and Code of Conduct. All duties are to be performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations. This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.

Requirements

  • Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have a basic understanding of electrical distribution and transmission.
  • Must have five (5) years with the Company, of which at least three (3) years must have been in an electrical operations group.
  • Must have successfully satisfied pre-qualification requirements as determined by the SOTC.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with Company personnel, Service Providers, Contractors and the public.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must possess a valid drivers' license.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Company's Electrical System on rotating shifts
  • Issue clearances and switching orders to qualified field personnel for all distribution lines and equipment 34kV and below, and transmission lines, as directed by the Senior Power Dispatcher
  • Perform SCADA switching in compliance with established Company Standard Practices and Procedures
  • Perform duties within the assigned Standard Operating Practices (SOP) for System Operations
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all Company standards, policies, practices, and procedures, as well as State and Federal safety regulations as they pertain to the job
  • Perform similar and incidental duties as assigned
  • Work under the direct supervision of the System Operator and/or System Operator Training Committee (SOTC) until successfully passing the Level I exam
