Requirements

  • Practical skill in checking filesystem capacity, identifying large/old/duplicate files, calculating directory sizes, and performing other maintenance diagnostics on Linux/Unix servers.
  • Ability to schedule routine maintenance without disrupting normal workflow, recognize emergent maintenance needs, select an appropriate response, and maintain accurate maintenance logs.
  • AA or two year technical school degree and 3+ years’ work experience, or four (4) additional relevant years of experience may be substituted for education (7 years total).
  • Ability to pass a Tier 2/Moderate Background Investigation.

  • Vendor maintenance coordination training/experience.
  • RAID and enterprise storage training for disk health monitoring, RAID troubleshooting, disk replacement, SMART status validation, and storage integrity.
  • Red Hat Satellite training for Linux infrastructure inventory, patch-level verification, and system lifecycle support.
  • BigFix training for patch-status validation, endpoint compliance, and infrastructure maintenance activities.
  • Ansible and Puppet familiarity/training for configuration-management awareness, automation support, and validation of server-management agents.
  • ServiceNow and CMDB training for incident, maintenance, asset, configuration, and work-record documentation.
  • CompTIA Server+ certification.
  • CompTIA A+ certification.
  • CompTIA Linux+ or equivalent Linux administration training.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Linux administration training.
  • Oracle Solaris Administration training or certification.
  • Dell, HPE, Oracle, or equivalent enterprise server hardware training.
  • iDRAC, iLO, IPMI, or equivalent out-of-band management training.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting infrastructure alerts, system-health conditions, and performance anomalies using SolarWinds, ScienceLogic, Splunk, SNMP, or equivalent monitoring training.
  • Performing rack-and-stack activities, power and cabling work, physical inspections, equipment handling, and controlled data-center operations with data-center operations and server-room safety training.
  • Hands-on experience replacing memory, CPUs, disk drives, motherboards, expansion cards, and power supplies, followed by successful server restart and health validation through hardware break/fix and field-replaceable-unit training.
  • Performing Linux/Unix server-maintenance diagnostics such as checking filesystem capacity, identifying large/old/duplicate files, and calculating directory sizes.
  • Utilizing monitoring and maintenance tools including BigFix, SNMP, GitHub, SolarWinds, Splunk, QRadar, EnCase, ScienceLogic, Puppet, IPMI, iLO, and iDRAC.
  • Planning and scheduling routine maintenance without disrupting normal workflow, recognizing emergent maintenance needs, selecting appropriate responses, and maintaining accurate maintenance logs.
  • Coordinating field-engineer visits, validating systems after warranty maintenance, and updating associated tickets through vendor maintenance coordination training/experience.
