About The Position

Our Assembly, Test and Launch Operations (ATLO) organization within the Commercial Civil Space Line of Business is seeking a manager for the Spacecraft Test, Assembly and Resource (STAR) building as well as the Production Integration and Industrial Engineering organizations. This position will be responsible for providing supervision and technical direction of a geographically dispersed, multifunctional organization comprised of hourly and salaried employees. This includes responsibility for manufacturing and test functions at the STAR center including Harness, Thermal Prep, Thermal Protection, Electrical Ground Support Equipment and the Machine Shop as well as the Production Integration (PI) team and Industrial Engineering (IE) team at the Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout building. The PI team is responsible for converting the near-term tasks of the master production schedule into a 2 to 4-week schedule of discrete tasks that are fully enabled for execution by the production teams. The IE team is responsible for conducting studies to improve efficiency of manufacturing processes, updating production standard hours and leading improvement initiatives. Other duties include responsibility of investigating incidents to determine root cause and implement corrective actions to ensure procedural disciplines are maintained. The selected candidate will assess performance, provide input for annual performance reviews and will also interface directly with other manufacturing peers, manufacturing engineers, associate contractors and the customer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education
  • Experience with the assembly and integration of Orion spacecraft systems
  • Experience supporting large multi-functional teams including manufacturing and/or ATLO disciplines
  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated successful experience leading salaried employees
  • Minimum 5 years minimum experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the Orion program and NASA customer
  • Experience managing an hourly workforce
  • Demonstrated understanding and background in integrated master schedule planning activities
  • Experience with principles of Industrial Engineering
  • Experience interfacing with external Orion organizations
  • Demonstrated proficiency establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and working collaboratively across multiple organizations
  • Experience with lean/six-sigma concepts, green belt certification preferred
