About The Position

Metro Transit’s Bus Operations Division is hiring a tech savvy, safety driven individual to utilize their transit system knowledge and project management skills as a lead System Impacts Coordinator (Transportation Planner IV). The System Impacts Coordinator will manage planned and unplanned disruptions to our transit services and facilities by working collaboratively across 37 jurisdictions to mitigate these effects for our customers. The System Impacts work group aims to ensure that our services are predictable, safe, and accessible for our customers to enjoy and utilize. This position includes work as both the Construction Information Coordinator and the Trolley Impacts Coordinator. The Construction Information Coordinator body of work includes developing strategic transportation plans that affect Metro Transit throughout King County. Duties include implementing transportation related projects involving multiple departments, agencies, jurisdictions, and private partners. The position requires frequent travel throughout King County for meetings to ensure deliverables remain on schedule. The Trolley Impacts Coordinator body of work includes developing strategic transportation plans that affect the Metro Transit Electric Trolley Bus System. King County Metro Transit operates approximately 160 electric trolley buses serving downtown Seattle, Ballard, Queen Anne, the University District, Capitol Hill, First Hill, Beacon Hill, and the Rainier Valley. This work ensures the trolley system remains safe, reliable, and able to expand as Metro grows its electric fleet. Requirements

Increasingly responsible transportation and/or construction or project management related experience, including at least two years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
Leadership skills demonstrating decisiveness, sound judgment, integrity, and a strong commitment to equity and fairness.
Ability to coach and mentor employees toward performance improvement.
Critical thinking skills related to construction and/or project management, workforce planning, process improvement, and continuous improvement.

Experience in either Transit Operations, Transportation Planning Construction or project management, or an equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Skill in providing clear, understandable information and direction to diverse audiences.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in planning, transportation, construction management, or a related field or experience that provides equivalent.

Responsibilities

Supervise and direct the work of System Impact staff, serving as a positive leader and role model.
Indirectly supervise other transit operating personnel when responding to or making operational decisions regarding transit service.
Assist the Superintendent in scheduling staff to ensure all assignments are covered and staffing levels align with workload requirements.
Lead and support staff development using county resources, tailoring efforts to employee strengths and areas for growth.
Handle personnel issues for assigned staff, including employee support, performance monitoring and evaluation, investigations, and progressive discipline up to and including suspension and termination.
Review coordinator work products to ensure qualitative and quantitative standards are consistently met.
Interpret and apply King County and Metro Transit policies and procedures.
Plan and schedule coordinator training and orientation programs, monitor employee progress, and certify qualification upon completion.
Manage and coordinate projects that impact Metro’s transit service across all King County jurisdictions, including major coordination with the City of Seattle on Electric Trolley Bus System and Streetcar impacts.
Intake and evaluate construction and planning projects to determine operational impacts to transit services and facilities.
Assign planning tasks to staff and participate in construction and planning meetings, site visits, and interagency coordination.
Keep Power and Facilities teams, external transit agencies, and other stakeholders informed of potential system impacts and coordinate operational changes as needed.
Coordinate with Vehicle Maintenance to assess impacts on vehicle assignments and service area conditions.
Coordinate the preparation of rider alerts and other service impact communications.
Coordinate planning and project work with System Impacts staff and external agencies such as SDOT and WSDOT.
Lead work teams, including Service Quality Supervisors in the field, assigning tasks, prioritizing work, resolving conflicts, and ensuring the accuracy and clarity of team work products.
Prepare written recommendations, analyses, and action plans.
Develop and distribute time sensitive information to staff related to service changes, construction, or emergencies.
Attend weekly Service Impacts staff meetings and respond to questions regarding construction related service impacts.
Report out about operational modifications and project updates to both internal and external stakeholders, including Metro Leadership.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
