About The Position

Southwest Airlines Co. is seeking a System Engineer for a hybrid role in Dallas, TX, with the ability to work from home. The role involves developing testing strategies, coordinating test efforts, managing issues and risks, and ensuring product quality and release readiness. The System Engineer will work cross-functionally to create accurate project estimates, communicate project information, and handle last-minute requests and stressful situations. This position requires a strong understanding of testing methodologies, automation frameworks, and various testing tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • 4 years of experience in the job offered or as a System Engineer, Quality Engineer, Software Engineer, or in a related position/occupation.
  • 4 years with Test strategy development and execution
  • 4 years with Automation framework design and implementation
  • 4 years with Defect management and project coordination
  • 4 years with testing using Manual and automated tools with waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • 4 years in testing automation framework using Core Java11, Spring boot and AWS SDK, and different databases
  • 4 years in Automation Tools like Rest API and Micro Services using JSON, SoapUI
  • 4 years in standard Test repository or defect management tools like ALM, QC, Jira, and X-Ray
  • 3 years with Gitlab and Sonacube
  • Hybrid role, ability to work from home.

Responsibilities

  • Develop testing strategy and communicate plan to management, peers, application project team and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate project information to all test team members and managers as appropriate.
  • Work cross functionally to build accurate and well defined project estimates.
  • Coordinate assignment among assigned testers to ensure schedules are met.
  • Track and report on issues and risks, escalating as needed.
  • Expertly handle last minute requests and stressful situations.
  • Develop test strategy based on design/architectural documents, requirements, specifications and other documented sources.
  • Develop testing programs that address areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, regression testing, negative testing, error or bug retests, or usability.
  • Develop or specify standards, methods, or procedures to determine product quality or release readiness.
  • Establish functional or system standards to address operational requirements, quality requirements, and design constraints.
  • Design and conduct software tests.
  • Evaluate existing systems to determine effectiveness and suggest changes to meet organizational requirements.
  • Develop test cases and test scripts based on documented sources.
  • Execute test cases and test scripts documenting the results.
  • Estimate tasks and provide updates on progress against timelines.
  • Report risks and issues.
  • Ensure that all requirements are met, both functional and non-functional.
