About The Position

KaylaTek has an exciting System Engineer opportunity supporting the AFNCR IT contract at the National Military Command Center. The AFNCR IT Services program provides support services for information systems for Headquarters Air Force (HAF), Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other Air Force activities within the AFNCR, missions to include the Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews (JBA), Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), and other locations, leased spaces, and alternate sites. The major support areas required are: IT Operations and Maintenance; Plans, Projects, and Engineering (PP&E); and National Military Command Center (NMCC). The senior leaders and national defense missions that are supported require that the AFNCR operations never fail, resulting in a fast-paced, challenging, but also rewarding environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • DoD 8750 IAT Level II Certifications:at a minimum,one of the following:Security+ CE (Preferred), CCNA-Security, CySA+ , GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP
  • BS Degree in Information Technology and 8 years work experience can be in lieu of degree).
  • Experience with Secure Technical Implementation Guidance (STIG) hardening practices.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems (Red Hat and CentOS)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with other highly skilled and diverse individuals
  • Extensive experience with VMware deployments, to include migration of VMs from Hyper-V to VMware, and building out a comprehensive VMware solution from start to finish (utilizing advanced features such as High Availability, Fault-Tolerance,)
  • Extensive experience with managing Windows Server 2022 and 2019 domain environments, to include AD, Group Policy, etc.
  • Extensive experience with building out and managing VMware
  • Extensive experience with building/testing Group
  • Work closely in conjunction with our Cybersecurity teams to harden our systems in accordance with DISA guidelines and best practices
  • Cybersecurity Risk Management A cybersecurity and risk management mindset are of paramount importance in the NMCC We work closely with our cybersecurity teams to manage and minimize risk.
  • Project Management - Within the Systems Administration team, the System Engineers are heavily focused on project management and execution.
  • Requirements Management - Priorities and plans can change quickly for the Systems Administration team, which requires a high degree of adaptability.
  • System Designs - In our environment, systems design parameters present unique challenges, which often require complex solutions. Our System Engineers must possess a wide variety of skills.
  • Systems Architecture - In our environment, the most essential tools are VMware and Veeam Backup & Replication. So, by necessity, extensive experience with these tools is a must.
  • Systems Engineering - We manage many systems, each at different stages of their life cycle, which compounds the complexity of our work. With tech refreshes and server/data migrations continuously on the horizon, high level System Engineering skills and experience are a must.
  • Systems Integration The NMCC environment presents unique challenges when it comes to systems integration. Flexibility and an agile mindset are necessary traits for our System Engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, implementing, managing and monitoring of existing and new systems within the National Military Command Center.
  • Working with a team of other systems engineers and systems administrators to resolve issues, implement patches, updates, and report progress to supervisor and stakeholders.
  • Making entries within the Remedy ticketing system to document the work that is being accomplished on a regular basis.
  • Developing schedules/timelines for the work that is required to be reviewed by leadership.
  • Working with other teams to include system engineers.
  • Work alongside system administrators responsible for the Information Systems (IS) within the National Military Command Center (NMCC).
  • Provide solutions based on system requirements and work with multiple teams to develop solutions to technical issues that arise.
  • Draft/review Engineering Installation Plans for IT requirements supporting the NMCC.
  • Work directly with third party vendors to discuss IT solutions/integration with mission critical systems within the establish baseline hardware/software configuration for IT networks within the NMCC.
  • Assist with System Administrators implementation, security, privileges, and regular maintenance tasks.
  • Develop and produce documentations, SOPs, reports, and presentation slide decks.
  • Develop, execute, and document test plans, test schedules, scripted tasks, with the goal of maintaining the highest level of system protection and availability.
  • Take a systematic approach to identifying and resolving server and application issues. Emphasis on documenting solutions for recurring issues and developing an internal knowledge base.
